That is a Disney title, so no. It is the original.

It's the 1955 version. Part of the SC deal.

3 years after the UK release when the biggest US based fans are likely to have already imported the film as the 4k disc is region free. On top of that the UK edition has a Fidelity encode. I don't know the inner workings but would Kino have to pay Studio Canal extra for a straight port of the UK disc so they only have to create their own menus and slap the theatrical posters on the artwork? I'm assuming (and likely very foolishly) the license would normally only include the film and restoration though not the encode (but maybe one of our resident disc producers could set the record straight). If they have to use or are choosing to use another authoring house then this release is only going to be of interest to the slipcover collectors.

Kino’s previous Studio Canal releases have included the extras that appeared on the UK discs, so it wouldn’t surprise me if they were given everything to use if they want it. They’ll probably just add another commentary track by their usual gang

My write up from the Noir List
domino harvey wrote: Fri Jul 27, 2018 7:30 pm
Mortelle randonnee (Claude Miller 1983)
MIchel Serrault’s private eye tracks, covers up for, and eventually kills for Isabelle Adjani’s murderous chameleon under the auspices that she is his own long-lost daughter. I found this tedious (I was not surprised to hear the US distributor cut out thirty minutes) and grew less interested the more it became likely that Serrault was having a mental breakdown and going insane, but it has such a specific tone and approach that I could see it being very popular with a more receptive audience member. Just not me.
Chabrol
was a fan, though

KLSC is going to release
Little Buddha on UHD.
I’d love to get Rudy Wurlitzer’s thoughts on it today. I still think the Keanu Reeves/Buddha sequences are some of the best work of Bertolucci’s career, but this film signified an irreparable creative downturn

Today's announcement was Fright (1971) on UHD. I think this is the first StudioCanal title going from Shout to Kino.

Surprised that producer (and
Nightmare on Elm Street 6 director) Rachel Talalay wasn’t interviewed. John Waters officiated her wedding!

Is this a first for home-video bonus features? (...that aren't for films specifically about incarcerated people...)

Did not realize Kino Lorber also licensed and is releasing alongside
I… comme Icare another conspiracy thriller from Verneuil,
Mille milliards de dollars.
Sadly,
Mille milliards de dollars was a disappointment. Verneuil is clearly working within a variation of
I... comme Icare's conspiracy milieu with one rather cheeky variation that isn't apparent until the end
Namely that he plays with our expectations of him to repeat I... comme Icare's ending by placing Patrick Dewaere and his estranged wife in front of an open, unguarded window for most of the last ten minutes of the film, only for them to face no danger whatsoever.
That's a funny idea (albeit one that only hits for viewers who've seen the previous film), but also symbolizes why this film doesn't work: it's too low stakes and laid-back to ever sell the paranoia, and the ultimate corporate evil uncovered is laughably conveyed as brand-ending, even though lots of other real brands with similar black marks are still doing just fine. One unexpected positive here, though, is Mel Ferrer's perf as the CEO of a vaguely Texas corporation. I've seen Ferrer phone in work in foreign films so many times at this point that I was stunned that he 1, made an effort at all, and 2, was actually great in the role-- he's really the only thing that even works here. Mel Ferrer
in the 80s was the highlight of a film. What a world we live in!

I hope that whatever fee she would normally have been given was instead either passed on to the family of the woman she murdered, or a charity for families of victims of DUI deaths.

Does Kino pay everyone who appears in supplements? I know they give a modest sum to the film scholars who provide commentaries

Wow! I was not expecting this… the Blu-ray is absolutely terrible so any kind of upgrade would have been awesome, but a UHD! I know this isn’t a movie for everyone, but I love just about everything about it.
