Are there rumors that Bertolucci’s epic ‘1900’ could be going to Criterion as a 4K?
There was an Olive blu ray a few years ago.

Suzanne Lloyd recently posted on facebook that this is coming sometime in the spring
She's been talking about it for a while. I'll keep guessing until it finally happens.

Lincoln Center screened the new 4k restoration last June.
Olive went out of business in 2023.

I would love for Criterion to release 'Novecento' in their collection, but I imagine there isn't much internal consensus about putting out Bertolucci's work now that he's semi-canceled over the whole 'Last Tango in Paris' controversy. Incredibly, he only has two films in the collection after all these years!

I wouldn't be surprised if Vinegar Syndrome ends up doing 1900 considering they released Last Tango In Paris.

The problem with The Last Tango In Paris stems from the content of the film too. All of this was known when Criterion upgraded The Last Emperor. The restoration screening was very popular (sold out with standby line), given the historical import of the film & the people involved in the film (besides just Bertolucci), Criterion would be foolish not to release it.

I did consider Bad Education too for my guesses, ended up with All About My Mother instead but they're both Sony so Criterion could surprise us with a double bill. Another Sony possibility, a 4K upgrade of Only Angels Have Wings which would actually make me super happy.
They haven't revisited Terry Malick in a while so I almost went with a Badlands 4K for my WB December title.

I really do hope the Spike Lee titles Kino released will all come out via Criterion. I’d love to hear a commentary with him and his siblings on
Crooklyn
Finzi-Continis would be a dream

Deadhead Miles was restored, so it’ll go to Vinegar Syndrome or Criterion

"Bad Education" is part of an informal trilogy with "Law of Desire" and "Pain and Glory" centered around homosexual desire. If Criterion decides to release one of them, it should be a triptych box set in the style of 'A Film Trilogy by Ingmar Bergman

I kind of wonder if Matthew Broderick was in the closet due to Torch Song Trilogy and not Ferris Bueller

Criterion like a zeitgeist release - fascists in the WH - can see it happening.
- La maison du bois UHD
The Other Side of the Wind UHD
Messidor blu ray
In the White City blu ray
Dog Day Afternoon UHD

But Harvey Fierstein has never been in the closet. (yes the pun was intentional.)

Predicting a UHD for La Maison des Bois seems awfully bold. I think it’s more likely they shoehorn that into the Eclipse line somehow.

I'd love this hypothetical set and not even wait for a 50% sale.

I haven't seen Grizzly Man anywhere outside of a television screen, but I'm guessing the sequences shot by Herzog were in HD while Treadwell's footage is SD video - I'll happily upgrade, even SD video benefits in a container that doesn't require as much compression in the authoring, but it's definitely a surprise.

Grizzly Man has been on the channel frequently & I believe pulled not too long ago (or was it added, it seems like this one is on & off so much it's hard to keep track). I actually thought of Divorce yesterday after Vincent D'Onofrio's closet dropped. He picked 3 dvd's that haven't been upgraded: The Ruling Class, Man Bites Dog & Divorce Italian Style & I most wanted this one and even contemplated changing my guesses.
