It's progress, but giving a big prize towards these other people with personal problems is not a step in the right direction if that's the narrative they're pushing
It reflects more than triple the actual racial diversity of the United States, in which only 1 out of every 8 Americans is black
Check your math domino, 3/8 is more than 1/3. [Mic drop]

I saw most people picking Star Trek online, such as at goldderby.com. But it was probably a toss up between the two.

I actually picked it for my Gold Derby ballot. I also predicted La La Land underperforming and losing Best Pic and Director-- post-Trump nothing is certain

So glad the best film of the just won especially when those honest ballots made me worry it wouldn't.

Yeah, OJ is an achievement beyond most anything else being considered tonight.

I've seen only one of its competitors so far, but the gap is truly astronomical.

Hey well at least Arrival won something.

Wow, now that Arrival win was def unexpected

I wonder if voters think to themselves, "Well, Arrival had top-notch sound editing, but the sound mixing left a lot to be desired."

Does this put La La Land in doubt? Usually sound is just a tease since no one understands it.

Does La La Land = Hillary Clinton?

The documentary category this year is the strongest field up for any award in recent memory.

Nope I was wrong it was Hacksaw Ridge's Kevin O'Connell. Though now it could be this guy.

I don't think the technical awards we've got so far reflects badly on La La Land. Now, if it loses Score and Song, then it should be concerned about its perceived favored position for Picture, Director and Actress.

That Vince Vaughn bit about Jackie Chan was pretty brutal.

I'd be stunned if La La Land's mediocrity goes unrewarded, but I'll be thrilled should Huppert win tonight. Stone's performance really didn't do much except carry Gosling.

Was the opening funny? I missed it and Jesus, so far this seems like one of the worst Oscars in recent memory, worse than Seth McFarlane's show.

The opening was Timberlake performing "Can't Stop the Feeling". Kimmel's monologue was not particularly memorable but fine.

It's an impossible position to be in, but I think Kimmel after a shaky start, understandable nerves and a little too much of the Damon bit has done really well.

The opening was better than what has come after it in terms of the jokes. Not amazing, but far from this clunky.

What if we just assumed that every year would be the worst Oscar ceremony ever and were happily surprised every moment that we weren't actively suicidal during the broadcast?
