I really like it, and it's made me more interested in the film. It's the best cover from the coming soon titles.

I still think that, in conception, it's excellent. There may be a few details that I don't like, like that funny shading in the background behind the tree. But all in all, it's a good job -- especially considering that Ealing's advertising department was consistently awful when it came to designing posters. See:

Not a lot to work with, and CC's cover is a damned sight better than the typical choice of front covers: the still image of the sea captain saluting as he goes down with the ship!

That bottom one is quite nice. I'm not sure why the marketing people were going for the 'Adventures of Robin Hood' crowd though.

I think it's an entirely appropriate connotation actually, as Dennis Price's character figuratively robs from the rich to feed the poor, albeit for less than magnanimous reasons.

As for the Criterion cover for the film, I think it's excellent, despite the redundant Photoshop shadow. Given how I adore Kind Hearts and Coronets so, I say; roll on February, roll on!

I love the cover. I think that those who hate it should be banned and have to give away all their criterions then forced to eat laxatives.j/k
"Saving Private Idaho" BRILLIANT!

I'll speak out and say that I think it's marvelous, too. That blue is fantastic. What's this shadow everyone's complaining about?

i apologize for doing this in the thread but i have extensively searched and cannot find a link i know is somewhere on this board. it took you to a site that had all the artwork for all the discs, including spines and back covers. if anybody knows this or can point me in the right direction i'll send them a cupcake that may or may not contain thc. it could be your lucky day.

The KIND HEARTS cover is a barnstormer. One of my favourite covers in the CC! Love it!

Absolutely gorgeous, despite the drop shadows. This is why I can sit for hours and look at my CC DVD's - Oh Yes!

I dig the KIND HEARTS cover. It mixes cartoons with photos and elegant cursive writing in a creative and eye-catching way. I like the bright blue background color too.

Bravo!

Did Criterion decide to change the style of their booklets? Both of the December releases use non-glossy paper. Are there any other titles, aside from the boxsets, that have non-glossy booklets. I cannot say that I am in favor of this new trend.

Off the top of my head, isn't BRD's booklet non-glossy? They've been doing it for a while at least... Cassavetes, Jules and Jim (I think). I know I've read a few non-glossy booklets... much earlier on than the current releases, just can't remember which ones.

I've created a little page to look up new covers from Criterion Collection. I thought maybe someone else would like this feature, so here is a link

Fantastic! The link is now my homepage.

Actually, there was a similar page that had ALL the Criterion dvds, but I've since lost it. If anyone can post that link, too, it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

If I`m not wrong, the page was created by JunDai, way back in the day.

Ouch! A 3-disc afterall. This might put off all but the hardcore fans, I feel. But what a lavish treat. Another landmark release from Criterion!

Very nice Malles. Even that too-familiar still from Au revoir les enfants scrubs down well.

I assume the Virgin Spring image is still standing in for Welles, as it has been for some time? Edit: Hey presto! It changed! I think I preferred the Bergman)

I love the image on the Arkadin cover. It looks to me like the work of Neil Kellerhouse. I could do without all of the text (The Complete..., AKA Confidential Report, written and directed by...) though. "Orson Welles' Mr. Arkadin" would have sufficed nicely for me.

Beautiful covers this month...still wish they would fix Viridiana. Especially love the Malle covers; Fists in The Pocket should be interesting indeed!

Those Malle covers are fuckin' great!
Nice job.

Oh, and I really love the 3-disk amray cases. That Scenes from a Marriage set looks great in it. Very stylish. Digipaks = Bad.

So many great covers to choose from, so many mundane final choices...
