The Frighteners could do with a newer restoration (good luck with that), but I don't see how the current Universal package could be topped.

Well here we go, then. Hopefully this isn’t just like their ridiculous Boondock Saints license and we get some new and significant extras

ONCE UPON A TIME… IN NAZI OCCUPIED FRANCE

One of the most celebrated filmmakers of our time harnesses the power of cinema itself to rewrite history in this electrifying WWII thriller.

Narrowly escaping the massacre of her entire family by the SS, Shosanna Dreyfus (Mélanie Laurent) flees to Paris and forges a new identity as the owner and operator of a cinema. Meanwhile, a guerilla band of Jewish-American soldiers known as “The Basterds” led by Lt. Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt), are waging a bloody war of attrition behind enemy lines but Europe remains beneath Nazi bootheels. Believing themselves unstoppable, the leaders of the Third Reich assemble in Paris for the premiere of propaganda epic Nation’s Pride. The location? Shosanna’s cinema. With all the rotten eggs in one basket, “The Basterds” join forces with British Commando Lt. Archie Hicox (Michael Fassbender) and German film star/undercover allied agent Bridget Von Hammersmark (Diane Kruger) to infiltrate the premiere. Their plan? Blow up the basket…

Brim-filled with shocking violence, thrilling action and excruciating suspense, Inglourious Basterds was a box office smash around the world garnering eight Academy Award™ (2009) nominations including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenplay, with Christoph Waltz winning Best Supporting Actor for his star-making turn as the chilling SS Col. Might be a bit of a pointless release since the Universal 4K is still in-print but there are still some nice extras on this. Sad that the Maggie Cheung and Cloris Leachman deleted scenes still won't be released though.

Not sure if the wait was due to Arrow waiting / hoping for more higher-profile cast and crew members to sit down for interviews but what they amassed sounds promising. Really looking forward to this, particularly the Fred Raskin interview.

A member at the other forum mentioned today that the Universal 4K upscale of the film resulted in aliasing effects, which struck me as odd since this is one of the more acclaimed upscales. Maybe James Flower was involved in this and wants to chime in but I can’t imagine this is a grave issue as there’d been more brouhaha at the time.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they originally licensed just BD rights when their original postcard teasers were found (it was pre-“Pitch Black” 4K) and Uni probably didn’t want to license 4K rights because of their own release.

I wonder if it will include the Cloris Leachman cameo that is, I think, only available on Tarantino’s own prints of the film

It just struck me but it's odd how they didn't manage to get Eli Roth to contribute a new interview for this

I guarantee you the "extended and alternate scenes" are the same ones that have been included on every other release. If this actually included the Leachman and Cheung scenes (which as I understand it were completely deleted, not merely trimmed) then Arrow would be stupid not to be trumpeting the fact.

With no notable improvements to the picture quality expected due to 2K digital master, and the audio commentary being the only new special feature, this feels like a rather unnecessary release, especially given that Universal's own disc is widely available worldwide.

Maybe they can do a UK-only release of Django Unchained (licensed from Sony) in the future, that one at least should have a 4K DI.

Where did you get one from, I counted 6 more new features on the second disc.

Oh, wow, that's embarassing, somehow I completely missed the new content on disc 2.

And there are reports on the Blu-ray.com forum that the trailers and other archival extras on the bonus Blu-ray are not playing and are causing players to crash.

If you are having issues with the bonus disc on Inglorious Basterds I'd highly recommend reporting it because right now, they don't seem too interested in correcting it.

Upon reporting the issue with my Panasonic 820 they replied:

It does seem to be specifically with the UB820, a player that has issues with with discs from other distributors.

The last part is news to me...but they do say they will continue investigating.

Is this actually sold out or was stock just pulled because of reported playback issues?

I second this, everyone who has purchased this release should check these extras in their player and contact Arrow about any issues. They are denying that anything is wrong with the disc, even though I have sent them video showing there are Playstation 3 playback issues. So it's not just the UB820, but they keep replying to me like it is, even though I've told them multiple times that I use a Playstation 3, and finally they just told me to "reach out to them" [to whom, to do what?].

I hooked up my PS3 - the only other Blu-ray player in the house - and while the legacy features don't just stop the player in it's tracks like it does the Panny, I saw the same type of sputtering you experienced. A few of the features DID play, but others are unwatchable.
