My guess would be Lydia propelling the action forward by doing something rash by putting a hit on the rest of Walt's family to tie up those loose ends she doesn't like. That would be my guess as to why Walt comes out of hiding - either protection or revenge for that, depending on her level of success. Where Jesse plays in, I have no idea but I feel that a showdown is eminent.

I don't know if I'll be able to ever rewatch this series knowing what happens to Hank. He survives the twins and goes through all that physical therapy just to watch his best friend die and be left in the desert to rot.

From the Pilot to last nite's episode

One nitpick I have. How can Holly be 18 months at this point? Could have been 8 but I remember hearing 18 when the cops are calling in the Amber Alert.

Holly was born not long after after Walt's 50th birthday (however much time passed between the pilot and just before Walt's surgery at the end of season two -- not a ton of time, maybe a month or two?). We are now at some point between Walt's 51st and 52nd birthdays (there was a significant time jump in "Gliding Over All," so we are some ways away from his 51st in "Fifty-One"). So 18 months seems somewhat reasonable.

The implication of that, of course, is that we are just a few months (or even weeks) away from the flash-forwards.

For whatever reason I keep thinking of the line Hank says: "You're the smartest guy I've ever met, and you're too stupid to see he made up his mind 10 minutes ago." I thought Norris delivered that beautifully. If I had to compare it to another line from a movie I'd quickly say the "you broke my heart" line from the second Godfather. There was still some sort of love there that I'm sure couldn't be completely lost after years of knowing one another BUT an obvious sense of betrayal, hurt, disappointment and probably even hate. That line and its delivery devastated me, and then from there the episode just got more and more devastating as it went on. I feel it will be a long while before I see anything else that had an impact on me like this last episode did.

Though between that line and the episode title I was just hoping an octopus would explode somewhere.

Agreed wholeheartedly. Hank's line basically served as a concession or admission to Walt that Hank truly did have a respect for the man Walt used to be before he decided to cook, which made Hank's death feel even more tragic. It also conveyed just how out-of-depth Hank believes Walt is at this point, because he has no idea what type of evil he's now allowed into their lives.

Thank you, that makes more sense than whatever I was coming up with.

It would have to be months, he's still bald. It takes at least a couple of months for his hair to have grown out that much.

Perhaps it's a side-effect of the pills he's taking. In which case, forget the crystal blue persuasion - Walt's sitting on a mutli-billion dollar goldmine!

For what it's worth by now, Gilligan confirmed on the latest podcast that Walt did know what he was doing, putting all the heat on himself and off of Skyler.

No one saw Charlie Rose coming. No one

Nice use of Junip in the ad for the finale. So the reason the Saul series is a prequel is because otherwise it'd be an exploration of the manager of a Cinnabon in Omaha, so nice diversion from the death many were predicting. Interesting rekindling of a more or less dead plot line with the Charlie Rose clip. If they were gonna show the vacuum guy you knew it was gonna be someone famous, so Robert Forster wasn't too much of a surprise

I'm not sure Ben & Jerry's, Stephen Colbert, or the makers of Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium are thrilled about this episode.

But wouldn't the dark underbelly of the Cinnabon world be far more interesting?
