While he is best known for his Children In Need hosting appearances and his Radio 2 show, he also had a slightly Michael Parkinson-style early evening show on the BBC in the late 80s that interviewed a number of Hollywood stars during its run.

My father though is probably most fond of his double entendre laden segment from his radio show in which the Janet and John stories that help children read were used as a basis for new stories that take the listener through a series of innocuous events that happen to John until all John's adventures get related to Janet, who inevitably misinterprets it in the most incredibly filthy way!

And let's not forget his sarcastic commentary during the Eurovision Song Contest!

Oh yes! That was one of those wonderful things where Wogan got more and more frustrated, bewildered and just plain exasperated as the years went on by the interchangeable belting ballads, the crazy costumes and terrible singing, along with the inevitable back and forth during the final voting of various blocks of European countries voting for each other for political rather than aesthetic reasons! He occasionally seemed like the lone voice of sanity in a crazy world, and could really make some withering comments at the promotional films for various countries, or after the performer had finished singing, or even during the voting sections as the cameras watched the performers in the green room awaiting the results!

Perhaps inevitably it was seen as undermining the show itself, but then irreverence is the best approach to anything as self serious whilst ludicrous as the Eurovision Song Contest! Thank goodness he was still around for the best recent Eurovision - the 2006 show in which Lordi won with Hard Rock Hallelujah! Though that might have been the straw that broke the camel's back! I suppose however that it was lucky that he wasn't around for those buxom Polish ladies performing daily household chores in 2014, which was an act seemingly designed to give men of a certain age a heart attack!

Graham Norton tries to carry on in the same vein but just doesn't nail the deadpan style Wogan perfected whenever Denmark or Latvia were about the reveal for whom their twelve points would go to. But I'm sure he loved the contest even if he eventually tired of it.

Eurovision is one of the shows I didn't like at all when I was younger and you really have to buy into it, but it's four hours of quite brilliant television most years.

I appreciate it. It's been a hectic last 24 hours. A lot of my friends from BMX are coming to my place this weekend for the funeral and burial. We are just shocked. Never expected this at all. Even more sad is that he's leaving to beautiful and kind daughters to grow up without her dad. Just heartbreaking.

I just stumbled across this long and interesting NPR obit for Blowfly.
He had a normal career as songwriter, producer and performer.
But under his alter-ego Blowfly, he did proto rap and pre-Weird AL dirty parodies of soul tunes.
So a repeat to put forth a more extensive obit.

Dan Hicks from Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks. Unfortunately he's probably almost completely unknown to the younger generation. He did make some TV appearances over the years but ultimately still remained squarely in the "cult" category. And of course, zero radio airplay. Nevertheless, I highly recommend his Return to Hicksville - The Best of Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks (1971-1973) compilation. One of my favorite personal discoveries from recent years. It's a magical disc, capturing the band at quite a peak not very long before they broke up.
