The question though is what nice features will Criterion assemble to fill up a second disc ?
I really hope they are able to release it eventually. However, last I checked both parties aren't going to trial until September.

Speaking of big Italian films, isn't La Notte on tap for release sometime soon?

Indagine... would be the obvious one that has just been recently restored.
No, actually

Not that I want to get into a silly argument, but I find it curious you would dismiss
Indagine su un cittadino al di sopra di ogni sospetto. It's a serious contender for the greatest Italian film (in terms of both artistic merit and its reputation) to have never received an English-friendly release, winning at Cannes, picking up one Oscar and receiving a nomination for its screenplay in its time. It's just been restored by Bologna and has been touring, and is set to receive a French and Italian Blu-ray release. I really would expect MoC and/or Criterion to have been sniffing around.
La dolce vita is a big film but it's been just as widely available in English-language markets as any classic Italian film for decades.

Tomorrow's my birthday, so as long as there's at least one title announced that I will buy on release date I'll be happy.

Wouldn't that mean one of the Cronenberg's would be barebones? No thanks.

Instead of going with the same titles that have been rumored/hinted at in the past few months, 2 of which will be on & 2 or 3 of which will be on the next few months' list, I'll go completely out-of-leftfield this time:
660: Mondo Trasho & Early John Waters' Shorts
661: Multiple Maniacs & The Diane Linkletter Story
662: Women On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown
663: Faster Pussycat Kill! Kill!
664/665: The Early Works Of The Kuchar Brothers + It Came From Kuchar documentary
666: The Devils
Eclipse Series 39: Andy Warhol 1963-1964 (Blow Job, Sleep, Eat, Haircut, Kiss....)
Newsletter Hint: Night Of The Living Dead/Dawn Of The Dead/Day Of The Dead box
...and on April 1st a special announcement on their Facebook page for
The Last Days Of Disco Companion Box:
Roller Boogie
Skateville USA
Can't Stop The Music
Thank God It's Friday
Xanadu

I have a hunch Summertime is getting a blu-ray upgrade.
It's the lowest # Spine (still in print) that hasn't been upgraded to blu.
Plus, it's June.

At least yours worked. Mine malfunctioned, and spat out seven pages of "RIVETTE" typed over and over again.

At the risk of going too insane:
from dwk's linked article wrote:At the mention of her big project for the year — a planned retrospective of the glorious films of The Umbrellas of Cherbourg director Jacques Demy — she gets wide-eyed with excitement. (So does her interviewer.)
Well, that's a pleasant surprise. Looks like all my crazy research and ramblings over the past while have paid off (not that I changed anything, but that my hopes came to fruition). Now to wait probably another year for the titles to finish their Janus tour and then make it out to Blus. Will hopefully not be a long wait for
Donkey Skin (perhaps my favorite of his films).
So, Criterion, if you are looking to add a third favorite director's entire filmography to your catalogs (Lloyd and Demy), might I suggest Itami next?
And for some further random speculation. When Ian mentioned
Princess Mononoke was potentially on the tables (Disney too scared to release it themselves), I wonder if
Castle of Cagliostro might also be considered as well (I'd imagine Disney also finding this too violent, etc).

If MONONOKE is a possibility, they simply must release ONLY YESTERDAY, which is the only Ghibli film that neither Disney nor any of its sudsidiaries has ever touched, and it's absolutely brilliant.
