Exactly my thought. I'm just a tad unsure about the Petri. It seems nice in the idea, but the execution seems a bit over the top.
I like the overall design of the Scorsese WCP, however. I liked it when I saw it on Hulu, it's a nice layout IMO.

Nashville is great! One of the best covers of the year, for sure. Cleverly designed, captures its original context and the themes of the film itself.

I figured out the smaller covers last month with Zaitochi set. Just replace "w100" with "original"...

Yeah, these covers are all great. Even the WCF collection seems to have a nice, unifying style. Nashville is still my favorite though.

I'm curious to see if the Investigation and Nashville sets are going to be digipacks like Tokyo Story, thereby implying that all 3 disc dual sets will be digipacks or if they chose the plastic cases like some of the European labels and studios have done. The main reason in the past for chosing digipacks with 2 discs was the booklet size, but I'm not so sure that Tokyo Story has such a big booklet nor the new ones, so booklets may no longer be the driving factor.

Some unused covers for Investigation can be seen at Criterion Cast.

The color choices on the finished fingerprints design seem a little garish, a little too CSI perhaps. But I haven't seen the film, so I don't know how well it relates. Definitely blind buying this title, btw, as I've heard nothing but raves about it from all manner of very different cinephiles.

They do have a 3 disc version of a keep case (Science is Fiction) so it's possible, just has to be scaled down to Blu height.

The second printing/packaging run of Scenes from a Marriage is a clear 3-disc keep case too.

Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion's cover is just terrible, which is unfortunate, since it's the only title that I'm immediately interested in.

Nashville's cover, on the other hand, is fantastic. One of the best in recent memory.

Another praise I'd add to the Nashville cover is how seamlessly it integrates the "Wacky C" quite nicely in the overall design.

I definitely prefer this option....I agree that the one they chose is rather garish. Very excited to see the film though, definitely a blind buy.

The artwork here is a major improvement over some of the past incarnations. There's one in particular that was about as classy as a sofa in one of those clear plastic protective sleeves.

That version did stand out to me, as well, as being much, much better than the final cover.

Well, the nice thing about the "garish" version over the grey versions of Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion is that nobody will confuse it with The Hit!

I thought of Le samourai, based simply on the colour scheme. It's possible that Criterion nixed that cover simply to avoid the brief instant when someone would have mistaken it for the long awaited Le samourai blu upgrade.

I like the above cover too, but it is a little too reminiscent of this.

I still like what Carlotta had done about it (the BD is still waiting for a release date...) :

Is Criterion declaring itself an independent state by having its wacky C take the place of one of the stars on the Nashville cover? If so that is a state that I would like to live in!

judging by the 3D view of the WCP cover, it'll be twice as wide as three disc sets like Fanny and Alexander. On the other hand, perhaps it won't be that much wider than a three colors or the Trilogy of life. I suppose I should use the latter as the point of comparison.

That's really my only problem with DF, shelf space to accommodate these larger packages. It is what it is, though, still glad it's being released, even in a cumbersome package it's welcomed.

It does make me glad that they got the Rossellini and Cassavetes sets released before foisting larger packages on us.

It looks like the spine had to be that wide to fit Scorsese's last name. Probably would have happened either way.

I don't see why it would have to be any bigger than Three Colors. Three cases in a box, three discs per case, two overlapped one on the left side or a flap hinged on the spine.

Frankly, I like this bootleg cover the best. Perhaps too bare, but a strong start.
