Anybody know if it's possible to cancel in process orders from DVD Planet? I wouldn't think so, but given that my Walker/Pierrot order has been in processing limbo for +- 2 weeks, maybe they'd make an exception...

Call them, if they say it's getting ready to ship, hold them to it and call back every day til they cancel it

I already tried that...you'll lose the pre-order price. I should add they quite the assholes about it too when I asked....which they had never been before. It's the last they get my business after this.

I don't mind not getting them at the pre-order price; I'm just impatient between this and some sour transactions with CD Wow (a month and a half running to get Drunken Angel to ship from the latter). With CC prices recently falling in Canada (I saw This Sporting Life in store for $28, Pierrot for $30 from Amazon.ca, which is pretty unprecedented and, given shipping costs to Canada, pretty comprable to most online retailers in the USA and elsewhere), waiting not only for however long it takes Walker/Pierrot to ship but then another 2-4 weeks for delivery is a much less enticing proposition than when I pre-ordered in December.

arsonfilms wrote:Last Emperor arrived today from DVDPlanet... in an envelope. I figured at the very least THAT one would come in a box, since the damn thing is two inches thick, but no. Damage was minimal and limited to some crushing around the corners, but it could easily have gone the other way. I've still got Pierrot le Fou on the way from them, but it'll be a long time before I pre-order items from them again.
DVD Planet re-shipped my previously bubble-bagged/damaged Lubitsch Musicals in same box as Last Emperor. (Else maybe I would have gotten another bubble-bag shipment. Or two.) So, whew.
(Last week Amazon sent me 2 Ford at Fox mini-boxes I ordered in one large bubble-bag - they got massacred (the bag tore wide open somewhere along the (UPS 2-day) line); I even had them re-ship one of them separately and asked for no bubble-bag just to see, but they sent that one in a bubble bag too. Returned all 3 yesterday for refund.)
(Running out of options to avoid cardboard damage hell...)

Yeah I've been getting bubble bags from Amazon like crazy. Luckily I'm on the Prime plan (sounds like you are also) so they haven't gotten harmed yet in their two day journey, but I am okay with it knowing how good Amazon is about quick replacements/returns.

I've never gotten a bubble bag from Amazon (any Amazon) for any size order. Even single item shipments come securely wrapped in a cardboard cocoon. And I'm not on Prime; I always opt for Super Saver. Hmm.
I've also never had anything that did come in a bubble mailer arrive with any damage that I've noticed. I've never been a lucky person, so I must be dead, and heaven looks a lot more like Ohio than I anticipated.

Ditto.

So my Walker/Pierrot order at DVD Planet is now on backorder, even though Walker's now listed as in stock. Does this bode well or badly for my order getting shipped anytime soon?

The last time I spoke with them (about a week ago) I was told they were expecting both to be in by March 15. But your guess is as good as mine.

That's unfortunate (March 15?!?!). I sent them an e-mail asking if they'd ship Walker seperately (seeing as it's now seemingly back in stock). Just have to wait and see, I guess...

The temp charge for Pierrot le fou just showed up on my credit card and it is listed as in stock. Hopefully, the shipping notices will be sent out today.

Just got a shipping notice for Pierrot Le Fou from DVDPlanet. It'll arrive about three weeks after release date. That's so great. It's Amazon for me from here on out.

Ditto, but DVDPlanet prices will keep me returning to them. Anyway, it's not like I would have watched the film had I received it two weeks ago.

Sweet! My notice for
Pierrot came today after I e-mailed them about its status.

I was watching the Janus trailer when it really started to bug me that it hadn't arrived yet. Express shipping for free would be nice, but it's a busy week so I can wait a little longer. I've been a customer for two years so I'm glad this is the only time they've messed up.

By now, the
Drunken Angel I ordered from CD-WOW on Jan. 13 must be stone cold sober and able to fly here on its own...

Maybe your copy and mine can stage a break out? I'm past the point of anger/antsiness on this one; I'm just damn curious to see how long it's going to take.

Finally got my shipping confirmation for Pierrot Le Fou. I'm still gonna order from them. I'm upset about the shipping but I've still got tons of movies I have watched yet.
Their coupons and frequent buyer points keep me coming back.

Today I got shipping confirmation for Mafioso, Antonio Gaudi and The Ice Storm. DVD Planet got those 3 out pretty quickly.

I spent 27 dollars on Mafioso through Amazon. I pre-ordered it a couple days before its release because I didnt think any stores would carry it any cheaper. Then on March 18th I went to Hastings and saw Mafioso for 19.99. I was pretty upset knowing that i spent more money on a dvd that I havent even recieved yet. To make things worse when I finally got it, a week later...the case was all cracked and no postcard. I dont think Ill buy from Amazon again or ever spend more than 20 dollars for a criterion.

Hastings, from what I've seen, only has a few $19.99 Criterions, among them
Mafioso and
Viridiana. The have other cheap ones, though, like
Wages of Fear,
La Jetee/Sans Soleil, and
The Virgin Spring.

Eeek. Bought "The Naked Prey" while on a trip to Oklahoma, got it home and opened it to find no disc inside. Now I have to do the exchange deal with the rather-limited-in-selection DVD section at the Best Buy up here in Seattle (It is unavailable at every nearby location according to their website).
Cue sad viol(e)in(ce)?
