Then there was this late last year...

Maybe you're right about the year of the pig... or we're getting Pasolini's PORCILE.

Precisely!

I wish the newsletter would have explained why Christa Lang-Fuller was around. Is this for the rereleases of Shock Corridor and The Naked Kiss, or possibly the early films (which I assume will be Eclipse meaning no extras), or possibly White Dog? Or maybe all, or some unknown surprise. I want to know!

Concerning the contest, I came up with 17 Best Actor Oscar winners who are in the collection. Possibly 17 1/2, in a "kinda-sorta" situtation. Anybody find more?

I agree. That's the first one I was able to figure out on my own (assuming its correct) since Late Spring about a year ago.

Twenty one, according to my count, assuming this does not include laserdisc titles.

I totally read zed's comment as "no meaning at all" or "completely random". I swear that's what It said originally. Maybe the fact that I haven't slept in three days impaired my view of it.

Its a boar, I read this a comparison to Fassbinder due to his on/off set behavior.

Maybe Fassbinder liked to get piggy.

I just saw someone came up with 21? Did that include best actress winners? I was wondering about that, since some use the term Actor in an androgynous sense, and then modify it by saying "Best Performance by a Female Actor," and "Best Performnace by a Male Actor" etc. I played it safe, and stuck with male actors, hence, eighteen. And, that does not include the laserdiscs. Shoot, I always forget about those!

Well, I just realized I forgot De Niro (Brazil) so that makes nineteen. Hmmmm. Even the seemingly simple contest winds up being so complicated! :)

It's been a poorly kept secret that Criterion has the rights to Fuller's The Baron of Arizona, I Shot Jesse James, and The Steel Helmet, and are waiting to release them (according to an e-mail from Jonathan Turell). Of course, whether these will be released as Criterions or as part of the Eclipse Line (or at all) remains to be seen.

Those are the "early films" to which Derek was referring.
