My first read was that Lynch was partnering with the other Interpol to create a new series of "You wouldn't download a car"-style copyright notices. Would have been more interested to see that.

It probably says something about the current relevancy of the band Interpol that I, too, figured he was working with the international law-enforcement organization.

(In all seriousness, Lynch has done cash-ins like this before, e.g. his concert documenary for Duran Duran. If it helps him make his mortgage payments, sure, why not.)

For a while it looked like directing live concert streams was going to be a new and more favorable way for name directors to earn a check. Too bad that never took off, but there's only so much an auteur can do with a live stream.

So Lynch announced another big TM initiative yesterday, and it sure would be something if this were the "secret project" everyone's been speculating about.

in this AV Club interview, Lynch sounds like he's a bit more open to revisiting Dune (!) though he makes clear he still thinks it'd be too compromised regardless of what he might find.

Sabrina Sutherland answered a few questions put to her on the Tulpa forum (that I'm a member of).

Wisteria/Unrecorded Night was a new TV series unrelated to Twin Peaks and was in pre-production at Netflix when COVID hit. Sabrina is hopeful that it can be revived.

She is trying to help make Snootworld, his animated film, happening.

Lynch has more ideas for another season of Twin Peaks. She can't speak for Mark Frost.

When asked why Michael Ontkean didn't return for Season 3, she said "circumstances - timing/locations/etc. just couldn't be worked out in time". She also confirmed that most if not almost all of what was shot for Season 3 was used in the final product. There may be BTS footage that wasn't used.

When asked about the possibility of David doing either a Director's Cut of DUNE or getting access to the original footage, Sabrina said that was up to Universal.

One member suggested crowdfunding for any of Lynch's future projects and she said her and David will look into it.

The Lynch project most likely to appear next is a music album.

I wonder where a new season of Twin Peaks would even go. The world of the town itself has lost so many actors that it would be difficult to keep it as the central focus. I don’t know that I’d want the continuing adventures of Cooper and Carrie Page, either. I dunno — I trust Lynch most of the time, but the show really feels like it’s a done thing to me.

That said, I’m very excited about the prospect of a non-Twin-Peaks TV show à la a full version of Mulholland Dr.

I really hope Snootworld gets produced. Get A24 or Annapurna to make a lowish-budgeted stop motion feature

I don't either, but then again, I can't think of anything that happened in The Return that I would have predicted (aside from characters who died simply because whoever performed that role had passed away). That's probably the best argument I can think of for making another season - if Lynch has come up with ideas that he really wants to put through, it's probably nothing I could possibly imagine.

I don't think The Return could be improved upon - though as HTS just said, I didn't think the original series could either, and it was, so who even knows what the man's capable of

This is exactly what I do want. The end of the last episode has both a mysterious, ineffable and inexplicable poetic finality and the suggestion of so much more, and a new place for the series to go. Part of how hard it is to imagine just what the hell the "more" could possibly be makes me hope that Lynch will answer it by moving to a new place of achievement, which is something I believe in. It's sort of a challenge to himself,

at least that's how I took the ending. I hope he gives us the adventures of Carrie and Coop and I bet it will melt my face!!

Much as I enjoyed the original Twin Peaks, the episodes that weren't directed by him always felt like a watered down Network television version of Lynch, never entirely successful at replicating his sensibility. As a fan of his movies back then I thought there was plenty of room for improvement and The Return was everything I always wanted Twin Peaks to be. If he goes out on that, then he did on a high, but I also think that Twin Peaks can be anything Lynch wants it to be. It wasn't a fan-pleasing continuation of the series and more like Lynch putting all the ideas for movies or tv shows he's had over the years into the show. So if he can only get funding for something that bears the title of his biggest success, so be it. As The Return showed, the Twin Peaks universe is flexible enough to become whatever Lynch wants it to be.

Agree 100%. And maybe he could even find a writing partner? I love it when cranky old artists do that, like Woody Allen working with Marshall Brickman on Manhattan Murder Mystery. Maybe someone young, who isn't mean. God knows he has a pool to pick from...

I'd be pleasantly surprised if Lynch had it in him to make another TV series, especially as sole director. He looks tired, even frail, these days--like all the years of smoking had finally caught up with him--and he admits that the marathon production of the 3rd Twin Peaks season (which is now eight years ago!) really took a lot out of him. But who knows!

To my knowledge, Michael Ontkean has never or very rarely participated in anything Twin Peaks- or Lynch-related after 1991 or so, so I didn't expect him to appear in the revival. His character was one of the least interesting of the original-series regulars, so it's no big loss.

Well, Laura Dern and other people/things do seem to indicate that he's at least written some stuff. I haven't been following him online or anything so I don't know anything about his physical condition, but I wonder who the hell would direct a Lynch script if he can't, or if he passes? Would he even let anyone?

Sabrina said he was in good health and very much capable of directing another project. But his main focus right now is "his music and art".
