I’d love to know if George Miller’s original cut of
Babe: Pig in the City still exists
I’d never heard about this and I find it hard to imagine, for what’s already the
most George Miller movie (and likely my favorite).
domino harvey wrote: Sun Oct 13, 2024 7:47 pm
If my memory is correct, I think the original cut was much darker and PG-13 and he had to cut it down?
I do remember thinking that Babe: Pig In The City and Jean Pierre-Jeunet's The City of Lost Children would make for an effective double bill at the time.

It’s a relatively short film. Universal made him cut at least 30 minutes from it

I think the film is essentially perfection, and I don't need a darker version of it, but there's a list of removed scenes
here.

It's possible they just love Chris Elliott. They went the extra mile with their
Cabin Boy release.

KLI just said on Blu-ray.com that this title was directly licensed from the film maker which would explain a lot.

Oh my god! I saw a clip of this years ago at the original Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, and I cannot believe it's being restored/released to this magnitude.
In case you're curious,
here's the clip in question.
And I can't forget it's
across the sea cultural relevancy, only because it's an election season.

Kino has a strong relationship with the 3-D Film Archive, which have a mission to get as many 20th century 3D films on 3D BD releases as possible. I'd say this more than anything led to this particular title being licensed.

Rambling Rose has been given a Dec 10, 2024 release date. I, for one, am very excited for a rewatch. I remember being very moved by it back in the early nineties.

Fun, if not truly remarkable, outing from Walter Hill, who did underground boxing much better in
Hard Times. Became a DTV franchise
I’d love to get the
Penitentiary films in 4K.

I’m a way bigger fan of its mostly unrelated DTV sequels, believe it or not. They’re lean, incredibly choreographed martial arts films. The original is an alright boxing movie.

Frank Tarzi pre-announced the announcement of Taylor Hackford's Ray in 4K. He's also evaluating whether to create a Dolby Atmos mix for this one.
Tarzi also apparently revealed in his last livestream that he tried to do the same for To Live and Die in L.A. but it'd have cost a fortune.

What would you do if you knew you only had an hour to live? This intense, eerily euphoric romantic thriller stars Anthony Edwards (Gotcha!) and Mare Winningham (Turner & Hooch) in a frighteningly plausible story that yanks you by the lapels and draws you into a high-velocity roller coaster. After 30 years of searching, Harry (Edwards) has finally met the girl of his dreams… unfortunately, before they even have a chance to go on their first date, Harry intercepts some chilling news: WWIII has begun and nuclear missiles will destroy Los Angeles in less than an hour! Not sure if this is a prank or an omen, Harry races through L.A., fighting angry mobs of terrified people in desperate search for Julie (Winningham). Steve De Jarnatt (Cherry 2000) stylishly directed this cult-classic that features a top-notch cast that includes John Agar, Lou Hancock, Mykelti Williamson, Kurt Fuller and Denise Crosby.
