I rather liked Stop Making Sense's fake cover. Was worth sitting through the swimminghorse in the fake cover art thread just for Stop making sense's covers. Not sure where he went off to, but I'd like to imagine he became Sam Smith or a regular Criterion cover contributor.

So now we know how they will handle multi discs digipack releases without having much wider boxsets.
Pretty neat boxset overall. I'm quite eager for the B&N 50% sale to come so I can finally get this.

It doesn't come across in the photos, but the Voyage to Italy case is quite a bit thicker than the other two--I want to say like 40% wider?

It seemed indeed slightly thicker to me on pictures (the spine of the individual cases show the difference) but I guess it wouldn't be much thicker than a individual case with a book with it, like In Which We Serve or Koyaanisqatsi. It seems to me like a good compromise, and is probably much better than what people are afraid of.

Like the look of that set and how they handled the two disc release of Voyage to Italy

How was it done on the dvd edition? Is Journey to Italy a 3-disc digipack?

They must have shuffled the extras around to other discs because Journey to Italy is a single disc and the other two films are double-disc digipaks.

I'm glad they retained one of my favourite covers.

I like the parallel in the title placement of LA VIE DE BOHEME and of LE HAVRE. Sorta like Wes Anderson and Max Ophuls's films having similar cover artwork.

Hey, it looks like we might have a new candidate for worst film in the collection!

(And I'm not talking about It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.)

Anyone else find the Saul Bass riff a bit iffy?

An Enemy of the People is one of Ray's weakest, but there are much worse films in the collection.

The Long Day Closes is fantastic work and the Rififi cover, while not great, is allright.
Thief's cover, though... sigh... it looks amazingly cheap. Seriously, guys? That's all you could come up with?

I guess we can take this as confirmation that Criterion has no plans to release Man with the Golden Arm.

Yeah, it looks like a pretty cheap Saul Bass imitation. Not only is it too derivative of Man with the Golden Arm, the thief's silhouette feels wrong - like a blacked out photo which clashes too much with the abstract hand. It just looks like something a first-year design student would churn out.

Love the Rififi cover, actually. All are pretty good and great to see another Kaurismäki in the collection!

Man, I don't mind the Thief cover we got, but the top and bottom right unused covers look infinitely better to me, and better express the feel and the appeal of the movie. I think the one we have is better than than the bottom left one, though, which mostly reminds me of birth control

Agreed. To be honest though, I feel as though all of theme have a sort of fan-design feeling to them. A variation of the cover on the bottom right probably would've been the best design for the film.
