TCMP is worth getting for the packaging alone.

What's with the thick black border under on the title for Passion. Hopefully they change that.

It matches the poster available in the Criterion Store

I like all of these, especially Age of Innocence and Women in Love, except for the awful blue sticker placement on King of Jazz.

Something about The Age of Innocence cover really strikes me as boring/low-effort.

It’s Sarah Habibi that’s why.

I like the Joan of Arc cover. I’m not digging the others.

God your right; Three Colors Trilogy and Cries and Whispers, two of the biggest whiffs in Criterion cover-art history.

Criterion covers will soon be gallery oil paints.

Women in Love looks good; The Passion of Joan of Arc was expected, but is great nonetheless.

The Age of Innocence cover really reminds me of the Magnolia poster, with that "gold flower against black background" aesthetic and all.

So that's what a gold flower against a black background looks like!

Oh my, looks like the snarkiness has even overtaken Randall Maysin. But it's me so it doesn't count. No offense meant.

Although the opening credits of The Age of Innocence beat the Magnolia poster by six years:

I know its text placement is very late '90s but I honestly preferred the subtlety of the old Joan of Arc cover.

Right. Still prefer the continuation of the image. Anyone else?

The Joan of Arc cover makes me think of Essential Art House covers (just at the bottom instead of the top).

do you think that this implies that Criterion will now change the spine/side of their blu-ray/DVDs ? with not only the title of the movies/spine, but title/director, actors, etc...?

Does anyone recognize the man and woman photographed for the 100 Years of Olympic Films packaging (the woman is featured on the book cover)? I was curious if they were actual Olympians or just models hired for the photos.

I think they were models done in the style of the short film “the olympics as they were practiced in Ancient Greece”

It's pretty rare for a Criterion spine to include anything other than the title, but both these Pabst films have the director's name on the spine. I don't own the other Pabst films, so I'm not sure about Pandora's Box or Threepenny Opera.
