Or maybe all, or some unknown surprise. I want to know!
It's been a poorly kept secret that Criterion has the rights to Fuller's
The Baron of Arizona,
I Shot Jesse James, and
The Steel Helmet
Those are the "early films" to which Derek was referring.
Ah, just noticed that. Thanks.

Boars are the least of it. What the hell is Criterion doing releasing this kind of expensive tripe instead of grabbing the license to the now-OOP Gas, Food, Lodging!?

Wacky Penguin
confirms Ace in the Hole, not that we needed it.

I think it just happened. You might check your spam filter. I had a problem with that at one point.
Edit: I received it at 5:51 pm eastern today.

It tells very little new apart from ACE IN THE HOLE confirmed... Presumably no MARCH OF THE PENGUINS SE?!.... I hope not...

Perhaps a SE of Happy Feet...lol.
Where was the penguin from? Or did they run out of animals and choosing them randomly now. Next up is a skunk.

And maybe after that they can cave in and just use Roger Rabbit and truly have a "wacky animal".

the penguin is from NANOOK?

wrong hemisphere (as the Inuits are of the Arctic and Penguins are exclusively* antarctic), the exception being Galapagos penguins
the only film that I could think of with a penguin would be The Life Aquatic (in a fringe scene, or something)... but that's just a guess

Doesn't Jean Servais buy someone a stuffed penguin in Rififi?

I'd thought it was obvious; The Criterion Collection is finally releasing Burgess Meredith's epic portrayal of greed and mania in in the two-part "Hizzoner the Penguin" and "Dizzoner the Penguin"
Couldn't think of a more worthy film (or, TV episodes) Can we say 4 disk set?
PS: What next? An $80 deluxe presentation of four obscure Boris Karloff movies? (Sorry, couldn't resist)

Or maybe they're hinting at a release of Koreyoshi Kurahara's Antarctica(AKA South Pole Story)? After the recent success of its American remake (Eight Below), that might actually make sense.

You guys are investing way too much thought into this; it's just a fucking penguin!

Or maybe not enough? Notice how pronounced the penguin's right shoulder is, and being that it is a penguin they're using it seems to me that criterion is giving us the cold shoulder, so to speak, regarding their release news--since
Ace in the Hole has long since been a rumored title.

Since a penguin has flippers that don't lend it the ability to fly, I have to say that this is a clear indication that we'll be getting Wings of Desire.
Or Croupier. You know, because of the tuxedo thing.
Ok, I think the whole penguin joke has gone on just about long enough. Can we all agree that it's kind of fun to goof around about the wacky animals for a day or two after any given newsletter but after that it starts to go too far?

Actually, this seems to be a pretty clear confirmation of Bottle Rocket, probably before the year is out! At last!

Isn't that a dupe of a marketing 1-pager or sell-sheet from someplace else within their online operation?

Original one-sheet
here. Almost identical to the first post of the
Eclipse thread.

Ichikawa's astonishing documentary "Tokyo Olympiad" is now out of
