I have
Inside Llewyn Davis from the day that release came out, and
I Knew Her Well was one of those three items in my cart but the underwhelming features sort of held me back. I really am seeing less and less need to own a ton of stuff as physical media unless it has the combination of both being a film/TV show I love AND having worthwhile features. Streaming is too easy and reliable if I'm only watching a film once, or once every few years/decades.
These conversations just stir images of
Walter Benjamin for me.

Thanks! This seems like a pretty easy choice, then.

As a heads up to everyone!
This is the best (and possibly last) chance to get
many of the Dual Format releases that are now only available at Criterion.com (some have already sold out - Hidden Fortress). So if you don't want to spend the same price in the future and be out a DVD, make your purchases now.
Also:
Burden of Dreams is being reissued very soon on Amazon.com. Although there is no official word yet, it is highly likely that the lengthy included book will either be trimmed or removed entirely. I know many are holding out for the blu-ray release, but as recent booklet trends have shown, the large book is likely not going to be ported over, so buy it now while you can.

For those not keeping track in the dual format thread:
Zatoichi is back in stock at Criterion's website. This is possibly your last chance to get it in dual format, as its soldout nearly everywhere else.

I'm a little new to this game. Put in my order and received a $50 gift certificate. Am I able to use that right away during the current sale? Presumably I'll have to pay the shipping again for placing a new order. In that case, is it still good for the sale in October ? I'm not noticing an expiry date anywhere for the certificate.

It doesn't expire. Save it for next time.

Shipping is free over $50, so you'd be good so long as you pay the $10 or whatever to get it technically over $50 (it calculates the shipping based on the cost before gift certificates)

Shipping isn't free for Canada unfortunately. I'll save it for next time.

Has anyone had any luck getting a Blu-ray case replaced by Criterion? One of the Blu-rays I ordered from their site in the recent flash sale came badly busted. The disc and booklet are fine, but the case is broken to pieces on one side and will not close. I e-mailed "Jon Mulvaney" but have yet to receive a response. This happened once before a few years back, and I never got a response then either.

They never respond because they are not going to send you a free case, they only replace damaged or missing booklets and covers free of charge. The only time Jon mentioned cases is when I asked if their online store was the best place to acquire them

I've requested new cases a few times (once I believe I even requested a new insert as well) and I've gotten one each time. Didn't pay for them either. I got a response from Mulvaney asking for my mailing address and received the replacement a few days later. But this was two years ago, so I don't know if it's still possible.

The few times that I've requested a case replacement, it ran me $5 for the case and artwork. None of my replacements were Criterion's fault (ebay purchases, etc.). They sent me a paypal invoice and that was that. Hope that still works.

For some reason I keep getting an error message on paypal every time I try to order replacement packaging from Criterion. Does anyone know why this might be occurring?

Thanks, I will try this. Thanks to everyone else for the input too. If Criterion doesn't respond from this different e-mail address, it looks like I'm just stuck with a broken case.

Does Criterion send out shipping confirmations? I haven't received one, but it may have shipped (I have it going to my PO Box & want to know if I should make the effort to go in for it). Website simply says "Shipment #1", but no delivery confirmation info.

Yes, though mine went to junk mail for some reason this time. It seems like orders placed later during the sale have not shipped yet. If you go to your orders on their website and it has shipped, there will be a tracking number listed.

I was told by their order department Inside Llewyn Davis sold out real quick and they have to wait for new shipments to arrive.

My copy of
The Graduate arrived water damaged despite the Classic Hitchcock box, the shipping label and shipping box all being dry and damaged-free.
The Graduate was shrink wrapped and that appeared dry, but the sleeve, booklet, and slightly broken case were wet. The booklet and sleeve were soaked. The disc had water spots and droplets, but played fine. I requested a replacement booklet, sleeve, and case after showing photos and by the next day they sent it out free of charge. I can only assume that whatever happened could only occur during the disc processing/packaging stage since everything else was dry as can be.

Maybe I got the "Fully Submerged" edition, but without the scuba gear Benjamin collectible statue that was supposed to come with it.

My order has not shipped yet and they haven't even specified which items are out of stock. One of the items was the Riot in cell block 11, so let's hope they don't eventually replace the dual format I ordered with the standard blu-ray edition. If you receive a damaged case from Criterion, they will replace it free of charge, but good luck getting them to send you replacement cases if you ordered from a retailer.

That's exactly what happened to me and I have yet to hear back from Criterion. I gave them the order number, so they know the order was from their site and not from a retailer.
UPDATE: Criterion has responded and will send me a replacement case! They responded from the email address fdm posted above. Thanks for that. \:D/

Got my copy. Thanks. But where's the Zatoichi thread?
