My standard DVD Bottle Rocket preorder shipped from DVDPlanet today. Good to see that this release officially won't be delayed, despite some looming signs that it might.

Anyone receive shipping confirmation from Amazon for the SD release of Chungking Express? I pre-ordered this in late October and still nothing, I am wondering if the problem is that I ordered this with something else and it has been on the backburner, it says that they should have it delivered by the day after the release, but I dont think that will be happening.

Does anyone else find it odd that the March Criterions still aren't available for preorder on DVDPlanet?

Not unusual for them to be last on board with a title or two from time to time.

I just got this from CriterionDVD.com:
Dear CriterionDVD.com member,

The purpose of this message is to convey our sincere apologies for any inconvenience you may have experienced during the last few weeks with respect to the processing of your orders and some other customer service related issues.

The owner of the company has been in the hospital for almost two months after a serious surgery and was not able to efficiently manage the day-to-day business operation. Just before it happened the senior manager had also left the company. As a consequence our customer support and order processing staff was downsized and the company was not able to handle all orders and requests in a timely manner during the busiest sales season of the year.

Our new team will be out early next week to review and process all outstanding orders and/or refunds. We hope that we will be able to go back to normal business mode and accept new orders within next two to three weeks.

Many of you should know that we have always tried to provide the best service to our customers and it is still our goal to overcome all the difficulties and maintain a high level of customer satisfaction.

Again, we apologize for all the inconvenience and thank you for you support and understanding.

Wishing you all the best in the New Year,

CriterionDVD.com Team
I guess that explains it...

I know the guy had surgery and they had some managerial problems, but c'mon guys, it's putting DVDs in envelopes and mailing them. It's not rocket science. I've worked for a company that sold DVDs etc exclusively on the web (via Amazon, eBay etc marketplaces), and they had managerial problems you wouldn't believe, constant turnover yet packages still went out.

Still nothing released later than February. When does this officially become unusual?

I usually get mine at store purchases at Frys. Got Videodrome and Harakiri last night for under fifty.

Given that it now seems impossible to find Criterion titles for as cheap as many of us were used to, I wonder: Did Criterion raise the distro cost of their discs? That might account for the couple buck increase, well, everywhere

Wouldn't surprise me. That or it's part of the sellers way to make up for all the damaged cardboard I return to them before I get decent copies.

Either that, or with declining DVD sales, online/brick & mortar stores may be less willing to pass along their volume discounts to the customer. It would seem counterintuitive in this economy for Criterion to raise their prices.

Logically this makes sense, but the past year has been an amazing one for DVD sales and perm prices-- many from DD/DVDPlanet. I know online retailers participate in loss leaders to a similar extent as B+M stores, but Criterions are really the only DVDs I see going up in price

Does anyone have a number for Criteriondvd.com. They haven't replied to at least 10 emails since October (!) relating to an unfulfilled order. Being stuck in England there's clearly not a great deal I can do, but it's so frustrating not to be able to get through to these people...

Many thanks in advance.

There's some discussion of them in the Trades forum-- basically the guy who runs it stole your money, unfortunately.

Thanks. While it's a shame that they seem to have run off with quite a lot of money from various people, it is a bigger shame that a once reliable DVD supplier is no more.

Why is it that neither DVDPlanet nor DeepDiscount have this Eclipse title on their site 5 days before release date?

My copy shipped today from DeepDiscount, too.

I'm very eager to see these films. No other release this year (Jeff Keen a possible runner up) has had me this excited.

Here you are. I don't know why DVD Planet doesn't have it, except that there are a certain number of Critierion titles they fail to stock for no apparent reason.
