How do they go from "hasn't heard of any plans for a film" to "Michael Cera is vetoing the movie"? Any reasonable person might say the same thing Cera did, just because the series ended so nicely. It doesn't mean anything.
Geez, is this guy usually a political reporter?

Alda and Daniels "Howl" for Ginsberg movie
NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - Alan Alda, Jeff Daniels, Mary-Louise Parker, David Strathairn and Paul Rudd are attached to join the beatnik biopic "Howl."
The 1950s-era feature focuses on the obscenity trial that sought to censor Allen Ginsberg's groundbreaking book-length poem. "Spider-Man" villain James Franco will play Ginsberg.
The notion of James Franco as Allen Ginsberg is somewhat intriguing. (And thanks Hollywood Reporter for clearing up that he was in
Spiderman 
).

I love the show and also don't see the need for an AD film. There is no way it could come close to matching the genius of those three seasons.

Brain Candy, but I know you did! It would make more sense to write another ensemble script from scratch, which I'm sure would make the
AD writers go crazy with the meta all the way back to square one, since the series was just what it was: a tv show; the translation to film is marked with a higher disaster rate than I would like to consider even thinking about, but I appreciate the world being spared

Jon Amiel is directing a biopic on Charles Darwin. Given that Amiel's previous films include The Core (possibly one of the dumbest movies ever made), Entrapment and The Man Who Knew Too Little... I'm not expecting much (not that the last two are bad, I just can't see how he'll do Darwin's story justice)
Too bad Peter Greenaway can't do another Darwin film.

I just noticed this
interview with Michael Cera posted earlier today at Spout.com where he says he'd do an
Arrested Development movie if it was going to be good:
We keep hearing things about the Arrested Development movie, is it actually happening as far as you know?
We’re not in production and I haven’t read a script. I know Jason (Bateman) wants to, and I don’t know if Mitch (Hurwitz) wants to. But, I would only want to be a part of it if it was going to be good. Because, its good to end on a high note, I think, and go out with a bang and leave the winning war. That’s just my instinct. I don’t think it would be worth doing unless it was going to live up to the expectation that might come with it.

Apparently Brett Ratner signed a pact with the Devil, because is now rumored that he will be at the helm of the
new Conan film. At least, his
Guitar Hero movie appears to be put on hold.

I remember Zak Snyder wanting to do this, but I don't want another
300. Believe it or not, Vince McMahon and WWE films wanted this, so it would serve as a vehicle for Triple H. Still, I think Terry Gilliam could do a great fantasy/adventure film of Conan.

Timur Bekmabetov is to direct a
'reimagining' of Moby Dick.
The writers revere Melville’s original text, but their graphic novel-style version will change the structure. Gone is the first-person narration by the young seaman Ishmael, who observes how Ahab’s obsession with killing the great white whale overwhelms his good judgment as captain.
This change will allow them to depict the whale’s decimation of other ships prior to its encounter with Ahab’s Pequod, and Ahab will be depicted more as a charismatic leader than a brooding obsessive.
"Our vision isn’t your grandfather’s ‘Moby Dick,’ " Cooper said. "This is an opportunity to take a timeless classic and capitalize on the advances in visual effects to tell what at its core is an action-adventure revenge story."

You're so out of touch domino. Who doesn't want to see a beefy Leonidasified Ahab screaming something about glory while hurtling through the air before throwing a spear towards a massive beast? And the camera will be all like, spinning around the spear, and then the whale blood will shoot out. Maybe we'll even, you know, follow the spear THROUGH the whale and come out the other side!
Who cares about your old fashioned 'man consumed by obsession' stories anyway?

Although I think my college roommate and I are the only college-educated people I've ever personally met who actually enjoyed Moby-Dick, even among a gaggle of English majors.
