Brand New UHD SDR Master by UCLA!

PITFALL (1948) Starring Dick Powell, Lizabeth Scott, Raymond Burr, Jane Wyatt & John Litel – Shot by Harry J. Wild (Murder My Sweet, The Big Steel) – Screenplay by Karl Kamb (Main Street After Dark, The Captive City) – Directed by Andre De Toth (House of Wax, Crime Wave, Day of the Outlaw, Play Dirty).
Wow! Hadn't seen that coming.

It would be nice with new commentary as well, though the old Eddie Muller one isn't bad. The main thing is the upgrade, of course (fingers crossed).

The Lacombe is a Msr Wens story, a character recently seen in the omnibus Indicator released, and was produced during Nazi occupation (seems like we’re seeing a lot of these films lately). It was already subbed in English on the French Blu, so not much of a rescue. The Bluwal is a masterpiece but already released by Radiance. Haven’t seen the Dellanoy but those are three major stars in it, so I’m intrigued

Bluwal is credited with “A Killing Success” which is an alternate title for Carambolages. Let’s hope that means it’s on Kino’s radar (though I doubt it)

Well this alone makes it better than all the previous releases, I thought Criterion had it. It's also in Radiance's World Noir 4., so maybe they decided to hold off for a 4k resto.

Haven't seen three of the films, but I liked The Moment of Truth.

The previous set was mostly kind of blah, but I'd still recommend La mort de belle (The Passion of Slow Fire).
A sharp acidic mystery with Simenon's story transplanted from America to Switzerland, tautly directed and well
acted, especially Jean Desailly.

It didn’t - Paramount released it in 2020. It was one of those weird titles that was a BDR if you bought it from Amazon but pressed from elsewhere.

I love Honky Tonk Freeway with every fiber of my being. A huge, unwieldy comedy that is incredibly laser-focused on the nucleus of American culture.

Definitely recommend Reincarnation of Peter Proud as well. Michael Sarrazin had such a unique screen presence

I second I Walk Alone & would add The Blue Lamp & The Kiss Before The Mirror.

Honky Tonk Freeway was an oddball satire that I loved as a kid as it turned up on HBO in its early days, but I don't know how well it holds up today as I haven't watched it in decades, but I remember it makes a good double bill with Smile.

KL is releasing "SERGEI EISENSTEIN ¡MÉXICO! /.../ newly restored versions of those films derived from Eisenstein's legendary Mexican footage: Thunder Over Mexico (1933) and Death Day (1934) by Sol Lesser, Time in the Sun (1940) by Marie Seton, Bell & Howell’s four-volume Mexican Symphony by Willam F. Kruse and Egon Mauthner (1940-41), and the debut of Idols Behind Altars (2026), a diptych of Eisenstein's raw footage conceived by Bruce Posner with a new score by Paul D. Miller (aka DJ Spooky). This special two-disc collection also includes rare outtakes, photographs, sketches, and documentaries"
https://kinolorber.com/film/sergei-eise ... ZDLyd-qaRh

Death Day is showing in the 2026 Pordenone film festival. Notes on the restoration, from the festival catalogue:
”This 2026 restoration was sourced from a nearly complete 35mm nitrate print acquired by the British Film Institute from Upton Sinclair in 1939, and several seconds of a 16mm reduction print held in the David Bradley Collection at Indiana University Libraries Moving Image Archive. The original film negat ive and release prints of the 1934 Death Day were destroyed in a nitrate fire in 1938. It remains unclear which version Sinclair sold to the BFI in 1939. But the image quality i superior. I believe it is the original release print, slightly damaged in projection. This newly restored version is unique, not an altered edit: the viewer can see the entire 35mm picture full silent aperture as registered on the 1939 print. Previously much of the top and bottom were cropped by the Academy sound aperture. The version we are seeing is exactly the same, less 8-11 seconds of footage lost to projection damage; I added back 3- 4 seconds from the 16mm print. The actual film is 15'08"; the complete digital file with titles, 15'51"; with the Kino Lorber logo, 15'57”. Thanks to digital scanning technology we can see for the first time everything photographed by Tissé on the 35mm film frame, except the left-side optical track area that was blocked out in the print. In much of the Mexican footage one can see full silent compositions and sound film compositions. Tissé often reverted to silent film framing. /…/ Bruce Posner”
