Domino was joking that Let it Ride was the problematic title. I'm sure he remembers "the twist" that didn't age well in the other.
(Even though it was a play on soap opera twists.)
It was singled out in Netflix's documentary criticizing how trans individuals were seen in Hollywood productions throughout history. (Not surprisingly, you can count on one hand how many not-awful representations there have been until the last few years. Even
Boys Don't Cry gets knocked by one interviewee for dropping an African-American trans friend from the actual story.)

That’s obviously great news, but a shame we likely now won’t ever see the work print footage on disc. Was really hoping Shout or Criterion would rescue it

I hope so. The Scorsese film that has grown on me the most over the years. I remember being very disappointed when I saw it in the theater in 1999. It seemed like Scorsese and Schrader rehashing themes and visuals (and soundtrack cues) in a milieu that didn't interest me at the time. Since that time, I had the opportunity to work with an air ambulance company and, by extension, several different ground ambulance companies. Getting to know paramedics, EMTs, and flight RNs during that time gave me a much greater appreciation for this film. The exhaustion, cynicism, and gallows humor are accurate, and most of these people really do live for those moments where they can actually save someone's life. Cage is excellent in one of his most restrained and overlooked performances.

Press release for Ragtime/Paramount Presents edition:
https://www.hometheaterforum.com/commun ... st-5031259
Includes a newly discovered director´s cut workprint. Also deleted and extended scenes and a separately listed deleted scene, which I guess is the Emma Goldman/Evelyn Nesbit/Younger Brother scene already featured on the earlier DVD.

Wonder if it will still be censored like on the DVD?
As presented in the extras section, the scene is censored (it's probably just the exact same video file from the DVD), but the scene is also present in the Workprint version on Disc 2 and is uncensored there. It is in black & white in both presentations.

A
paywalled article from WSJ confirms that the Paramount Presents line will be releasing 'The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance' and 'Ordinary People' next year,
as well as 4K UHD discs for some releases.
[-o< for
Black Rain. Some of it has aged like bread but god damn if some of Ridley’s shots with Jan de Bont’s lighting aren’t some of the best sequences I have ever seen. In 4K they would be absolutely stunning.

Beaver says the new Harold and Maude disc from Paramount is cropped compared to the MoC and CC and it has no mono track. The colors aren't hugely different but they do lean towards green compared to the earlier versions.

Beaver caps don’t do the new Paramount justice: caps a holic gives a much better idea of the improvements. And the cropping varies from scene to scene, some scenes go the opposite way:
https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&a=0 ... 39&i=8&l=0
Fine detail is much improved on the Paramount:
https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=2&x=51 ... 0&i=9&go=1
And it’s obvious in almost all scenes that the Paramount comes from a better print source:

Not sure I like the new grading, whose white balance looks like something from 20 years ago.

I just went back over Gary's review and flicked back and forth between the Paramount and the CC caps a holic screens, and he's only half-right about the Paramount's cropping: yes it's cropped on the left but it gains a bit more at the top and bottom, and a smidgen more on the right (at least in the swimming pool shot).

Same here.
The joke at 1:49 is a favorite. (Though the whole scene's hilarious.)

The underwater fight is not only hilarious but extremely impressive from a technical standpoint.
The Untouchables (1987) UHD on 5/31/22

The Untouchables is not a great movie - it’s more disappointing that it isn’t given the talents involved - but I have a soft spot for it due to its location in Chicago. For a few years I walked up those famous Union Station steps all the time to catch the 151 bus. I think they’ve since been restored as the steps were sunken and misshapen from decades of foot traffic.

I'm a little surprised no one's nipples are heating up over the Quine, or do you all already have it in the Hepburn set? (I do not, and will be snapping this one up)
