Yes, the Kiss Me Deadly cover would have been better without the black background on the wacky C and the film's title on the Red. I think they're trying too hard to convey the pulp aspect of the film with the cover. Less would have been more here, definitely. Worst one for me is the Ichikawa one!

Seriously, what the fuck happened? Why did they make that poor little girl look like something found under a bridge luring billy goats to their doom?

I'm thinking we all know by now that most (if not everything) is coming out on Blu, so I'm showing the covers now without the stickers.

Zazie looks like something made in MS Paint, just look at the ugly brush strokes? I don't get why these incredibly low-fi covers have begun appearing again.

Count me in for loving the $30 price point for the Makioka Sisters Blu, I hope they do more barebones for the same price...

Definitely with you on that one, that thing doesn't even look like it was going for something

I agree...that black square with the wacky C does indeed ruin what is otherwise a quite nice noirish cover.

It has a street art feel to me, like something spraypainted on- which feels appropriate.

I'll definitely buy "The Makioka Sisters", but, God, I hope they change that horrible cover.

Hey, Insignificance has a fractured narrative, in case anyone was wondering.

People on Sunday and Insignificance are great. Zazie and Black Moon are okay. I know others feel the Malles could've been better but I think they work as it is.
I feel The Makioka Sisters is barely halfway-there. I agree with Murdoch about the Murakami Chip Kidd designs comparison but I think the left and right triangles are way too one-toned. As it is, it's the worst.
Like Tribe said, I'd be allright with the pulpy Kiss Me Deadly if it wasn't for the hideous wacky C. All in all, four out of six ain't so bad.

Zazie looks like a cross between Amelie and Alfred E. Neuman!

How much could you possibly save, $5 or so? Get them all in the superior format.

But he'd be right, and so would everyone else: if it's worth buying, it's worth going all in.

5 bucks is a lot when you're about to go on a 4 month unpaid internship. But you're right!

I smell "Infighting and Navel gazing"

If you're so concerned about money, why not just skip the ones that you don't consider good enough for the very slightly more expensive Blu-ray edition?

Although your point makes sense that would go against my better instincts to blind buy.

Pity they didn't use David Hockney's original photo-collage for the Insignificance cover:

If CC start releasing classic porn, I hope they keep the covers as classy as that beautiful image.

I think all the others are fantastic (particularly Insignificance and People On Sunday) but, wow, what happened to Zazie? Not even a use of the orange jumper - a motif as iconic as Chaplin's tramp outfit? Criterion appear to be having a really difficult time packaging their classic comedies.
