I noticed the first two seasons on Blu are half-off at Amazon, so I bit. With some exceptions (Mad Men, Louie), this board's generally on-point with their TV recs (would never have bothered with Justified, for one). We'll see!

Bear in mind the show gets exponentially better each season, so stick with it at least through, um, Season 4 before making up your mind.

I'm inclined to say the same thing for Louie too. I was only halfway on board for the first season, but Season 2 showed a lot of depth and improvement I thought. You might at least give the episode "Duckling" a shot.

To be fair Domino, didn't you say you only watched the pilot of Mad Men at one point? The tone changes significantly as the first season moves along.

Fair enough! Anyway, I'd like to echo everything swo said about Louie and Breaking Bad. Also, the only time that I was ever disappointed by the latter is the very end of Season 2, so if you are too, hang in there! Seasons 3 and 4 are approximately 100 times better than the first two.

Ditto, I'd say the same for Louie, but I fear that four or so episodes isn't really a fair shake.

It's not, especially if those episodes were from the first season, which had some great episodes, but also some iffy ones.

Yeah, all first season for me, though I have seen that Cook clip that's been flying around. Found that to be a better idea than the execution became.

Had to quit watching Up All Night. Maya Rudolph is great doing an extended riff on her Oprah impersonation, but not even Kelly Bundy and GOB can make tired baby jokes work.

CBS moves "How to Be a Gentleman" to Saturday nights after two airings; halts production of more episodes. Basically it's dead although with CBS it's never official until May of the following year. "Rules of Engagement" takes over the post-"Big Bang Theory" time slot in mid-October.

Fox renews "The Simpsons" for two more seasons; cast takes 30% pay cut.

I was hoping that How to Be a Gentleman would succeed so that Dave Foley can pay his way out of his child support nightmare. A shame.

I've been wanting to start a Huell Howser thread for a while (wasn't sure how many Californians there were/would be interested), but I've discovered some great news. Huell donated all of his shows to Chapman University and they will soon all be online (California's Gold, Green, Visiting, etc). Finally, one can see all 1000+ episodes of his show without either spending 24.95 for a single show's DVD or downloading the 40+ Gigs of podcasts (which only equates to about 30 episodes). I had hoped he would eventually release a large set or something, but this is probably a better solution than a 100+ disc dvd set.

For those of you outside of california or not familiar with Huell - try some of these videos. You won't be disappointed.

Yes! That's great news. It's the best major network-comedy that isn't on NBC - thought it just might be as consistent as P & R.

The first episode of VH1 Classic's 11-part documentary series Metal Evolution was quite fascinating to watch. A whole host of people from Nelson George to Yngwie Malmsteen talk about the roots of the heavy metal genre, primarily classical/opera, blues, jazz and early rock & roll. I've heard Bill Bruford is interviewed, which hopefully means the argument will be made that King Crimson's Red is the first progressive metal album.

NBC gives "Grimm" the back-9; will air at 10PM on Thursday Dec. 8th to test its appeal outside Fridays.

I've been watching that with my wife and daughter. It's ok, it has its moments but on the whole I find too much of it cheesy and dumb, in a bad way. On the other end of the fantasy spectrum I've really been digging Once Upon A Time. Interesting stories and characters in that one.

Hulu Plus to become exclusive streaming service for NBC's "Community." (regular Hulu viewers can only watch the previous fine new episodes, but Hulu Plus viewers can catch the previous seasons exclusively).

Did anybody here watch Dan Rather Remembers: Pearl Harbor on HDNet this past week? Really an eye-opening program to the events surrounding it involved and how the survivors have coped.
