Seconded - congrats Michael. I'll hopefully pick this up tomorrow [provided WH Smiths bothers to stock it this month in Reading].

Officially, it's out on April 10 - but a London-based friend bought a copy yesterday, so it's clearly in circulation somewhere.

Kaurismäki in a recent Dutch interview, the poor man looks like he's got a terrible hangover and is trying to nurse it with a white wine but is already totally loaded by mid-day/afternoon.

I wonder what "new high-definition digital transfer" means in this context?

I'm guessing they mean that they're sourcing their Blu-ray from the digital master that Kaurismäki supervised during post-production, because I can't for the life of me think why they'd need to do a new transfer of a film that had its world premiere less than a year ago.

"New" doesn't have to be in contrast to something old previously available before. "New baby" comes to mind....

Who the fuck has been let loose on the AE cover for this? They need the rough end of that pineapple shoved up them.

I was having Koskenkorva(the stuff that Pellonpää drinks like water in Tatiana)yesterday so I forgot to mention that Salminen is also in Cannes press conference extra. He just talks that the film was shot with Ingmar Bergman's old camera and little else unfortunately.

Since when has Le Havre (pop. around 300,000, and with its own cathedral for nearly half a millennium) been "a tiny fishing village"?

Makes you wonder if he actually watched the film.

Blu-raydefinition also reviews Artificial Eye's release, seems like Criterion is marginally better. On the other hand,AE is probably going to be less than £10 within few months.

Future Film,a company responsible for releasing Le Havre in 1080i/25fps here in Finland,is going to put out every Kaurismäki film on remastered blu-ray.First two releases are Drifting clouds and I hired a contract killer on june 5th,followed by The man without a past and La vie de boheme couple of weeks later.

I have no idea what remastered means in this case,if I'm not wrong AK owns the original camera negatives for most of his films but since it's Future Film, I'm not holding my breath.
More details to follow if FF answers my e-mail.

Since André Wilms is playing an older version of his character from La Vie de Bohème and
Spoiler
the Jean-Pierre Léaud character is meant to be taken as a conformed Antoine Doinel (thanks MichaelB),
are there any other characters that seem to have wondered in from other films? I haven't been able to find anything yet
