Thanks for this. For some reason I didn't make the connection to La collectionneuse, though his name sounded familiar. On reading your post I was suddenly reminded that when watching the Rohmer I had assumed it was Eustache in that as well, until checking the credits afterwards. Yes, I agree, very unlikely they would have changed places for the same role - it was just a suggestion based on Eustache's role's title and the fact I don't recall any other hitchhikers in the film.

I rewatched Criterion’s disc of this last night and was stunned that they didn’t subtitle the infamous final title card (“End of Cinema”), opting instead just for “The End”. Obviously it’s not hard to decipher if you’re looking at the screen, but I assure you lots of non native speakers do not register even the most basic of French if you don’t translate it in the subs, and this is the most important text card in the whole film!
