I have to return the disc to Criterion (via Jon Mulavaney).
When you have returned the disc, did you return only the disc/blu-Ray and put it in a CD jewel case + small bubble enveloppe in order to protect it, or did you have to return the whole Criterion "package" (I mean, the disc- of course-, the box, the booklet, etc...) ???

Any time I've returned a "defective" disc to Criterion, I put only the disc in a sleeve/jewel case and return it in a bubble envelope. There's no reason to return the other stuff unless they, for some reason, ask you to.

I returned the entire package though in hindsight there was no need to.

Who knows if this is common, but when I sent back one bad disc of Che (just the disc in a jewel case), they eventually sent me a brand new, sealed copy of the whole set. Which is not quite as exciting as it sounds, since it's not as though I can sell the other part on its own, but I ended up with two spare custom BD replacement cases out of the deal, which was pretty swell.

thanks to all for your replies about the "returning" existential question... (I had only asked for the missing Clean/Shaven booklet in the past...)
They just received my BR and I got the your "Walkabout Blu-ray replacement disc shipped via USPS International 1st Class mail today" answer...

So has anyone gotten a corrected disc with a complete package? Do they say "second pressing" on the back? Are any copies showing up in stores? (Probably ordering mine direct, but thought it was worth asking.)

Took a chance and snagged a copy of Walkabout at the B&N sale, only to discover the dreaded freezing problem at the 51 minute mark. Returned the BD to the store yesterday only to find that the replacement copy has the same problem.
That exhausts the copies of Walkabout at my local B&N, so now my question is whether I should explain the problem to B&N and have them attempt to locate a new "second pressing" copy for me or simply go directly to the horse's mouth (aka Mulvaney). Suggestions?

Telstar, just send it back to Criterion. You may even get a free coffee mug or t-shirt for your hassle.

I got my copy of walkabout yesterday, and it played all the way through without any problems. Maybe someone should move all these comments to their own thread, that way the thread will have more value for new people coming to it in the future.

How long did it take for you guys to receive your replacement discs? It's been two weeks since they e-mailed me, telling me they were sending it that day.

My copy of Summer Hours freezes toward the end of chapter 8 and stutters in chapter 9. The disc's surface is clean and scratch-free, and both BD Players (a Pioneer BDP-51FD and a PS3) I use to test the disc are on their latest firmware.

Anyone has problem with their BD copy of this film?

Only watched mine once but it was fine (I have a Sony player).

No problem on an Oppo BDP-83.

Thanks for the feedback, I mailed my defective disc in for an exchange. I really like the film and can't wait to get the new disc to watch the rest of it.

It's very possible the problem might be with your player rather than the disc itself. :-k

I have to count myself to the affected people now. Mysteriously my copy of Walkabout played fine when I recieved it 2 years ago. Yesterday I wanted to show the film to my parents who will soon take a journey to Australia and the freezing started at about 45 min. We had to watch a part of 25 minute on a horrible youtube version. Only the ending was watchable again on the Criterion disc. ](*,)
Both times I used my OPPO player to watch the Blu-ray.

I hope the exchange program is still working. Any experiences from European users?

My copy played fine two or three years ago on the Oppo BDP-80. I've just checked it on the Oppo BDP-83 and it got stuck at around the 49:58 mark. ](*,)

I wasn't here when this was first talked about and I couldn't remember how far back I'd bought it (I think about two years ago), so I put it through its paces every which way on the Oppo BDP-93, and all was well.

And I have the exact same problem now too. If you thought you had a good disc a couple of years ago, it's probably worth checking again.

Bah! Mine, too. Same place. It played fine back when I got it. Same results (freeze at 49:58) in both Oppo BDP-83 and PS3.

I'd really like to see a dual-format reissue on this one with a press announcement stating that the Blu-ray glitches have been corrected once and for all. I've held it in my hands every time there is a B & N sale and, remembering comments on this thread, put it right back on the shelf.

Guess I got lucky (for now!) as mine still plays fine. Purchased back in 2011 I think.

Mine played fine when I last watched it in 2010, but now it froze at 49:58 & jumped forward to 01:07:27.

Got a quick no-fuss replacement by emailing Mulvaney.
