I genuinely had no idea it was still running.

You don’t have to be a hipster, poor, or “against TV” not to own one. You just have to not care about it, which seems pretty easy to do these days.
But 98.9% of American households still own a TV set, right? That's why I assumed that 1% might have specific reasons for not owning one.

96.5%, according to that Nielsen report I linked to in one of my posts above. But how many of those people are only using their TVs to watch DVDs, or Netflix, or to play video games? Or only turn it on for the Superbowl or the World Cup or Grand Slam Tennis? Quite a lot, apparently.

Yeah, makes sense, but I still wonder. So 295 million Americans have TV at home but apparently only 30-40 million are watching it on any given night. So I guess 200 mi+ Americans are watching Netflix or maybe reading a book. Some are watching dvds, surely, but I don't think physical media sells that much. And yet, broadcast tv generates so much conversation for something that apparently no one's watching.

I'm one of those that has a TV almost solely for physical media (and it's never been hooked up to the airwaves/cable). In fact, it was only about a year ago that I even got Netflix, and only because it was painless to do so and they had something I wanted to watch!
I generally just buy TV shows that pique my interest. Commercial free and you can see it all at once.... The only problem I guess is potential spoilers.

Count me in as someone who has never had "TV." Even when I had an antenna, I didn't use it. Always used it for VHS/DVD/Blu ray.

While it was otherwise snubbed, the Emmys finally nominated Ted Danson for the Good Place
EDIT: Actually, I see Maya Rudolph was nominated too

Two nominations for Alec Berg shows is too many. Silicon Valley has settled into a frustrating formula that feels like the characters are caught in a purgatorial loop of repeating themselves since season two. Barry I've expressed my thoughts on in its designated thread.
I'll keep beating the Search Party drum, although I'm not surprised at it flying by unnoticed. TBS is known for Conan, Family Guy reruns and little else. At least Danson got a nod.

That’s TBS’s fault then. None of their fairly well received recent originals are streamable anywhere but their site that requires a cable login. Their Tracy Morgan show had lots of ads playing in my local theater before the trailers and we couldn’t find a legal way to watch it without buying a cable subscription

TBS's streaming is really terrible. I remember trying to watch a mid-season episode of Search Party only to find it wasn't available on Spectrum on Demand (although the episodes immediately before and after were!) and then going through the awkward process of trying to cast the app from my phone. I wasn't very impressed with Tracy Morgan's new show but it is a shame that the channel's content is so difficult to find for non-cable subscribers.

Don't know what it says about me that the anime is the first thing I thought of with that sentence.

There's a great lineage of interesting Arsene Lupin adaptations that Sy now belongs to-- no idea why WB is still sitting on the best, their pre-code version with both Barrymores. That would make an incredible Criterion, but it's way too obscure for them to go for

Also, I had no idea there was a Netflix French series starring Gerard Depardieu and Benoît Magimel til reading about it in that article. Why is Netflix not recommending me things like this that I'd want to see instead of trying to get me to watch the Mindy Project?

Frasier reboot possible?!
Well, I had always wanted this-but after John Mahoney passing away, I’m not sure I want to live in a world where Martin and Eddie are no longer alive...
Still, I inhaled so deeply that I cracked a rib.

Dark Tourist is absolutely terrible. It's seventh rate Louis Theroux (Eighth rate? Ninth?) with none of the human connection or journalistic maturity. I loved the documentary Tickled, the director of which created and leads this docuseries, but if I had to guess based upon this follow-up, that was just a fluke.

I'm surprised by McHale's cancellation, I don't know anything about Wolf's show but I imagine it's a Daily Show/Full Frontal style. Netflix must be really tightening things up if a guy standing in front of a green screen for half an hour gets the axe after a season.

Maybe that kind of format just doesn't work as well for Netflix as it does with traditional cable.

HBO quietly eliminated access to adult programming. While I could do away with the soft-porn/"skinemax" stuff, the real loss to me is of programs like
Real Sex and the programs Sheila Nevins oversaw that erred more towards a human side while remaining saucy and sex-positive.
