On the packaging for Idaho:
Dear William,

best,

If that's the real
Idaho cover, It's a hell of a cover. I may be in a minority here, but I love it.

They should change the font of the title and take off the silly pink/blue border so it doesn't look so cheap.

You know what, if it's a digipak, I actually kind of like it. Except for the pink. I don't know what it is but I never thought pink looked good for design. I even think it looked awful on the poster art for Legally Blonde. But I actually do like that cover if it is the actual one.

They should of just added a large potato on the cover.

Well, *obviously*, Criterion is using the pink border to comment on the film's gay subtext.

If that's the case, then that's, well, uh, gay!

And the blue stripe is used in combination with the pink stripe to show that it is boy-gay. Oy.

cinephrenic, it's a screen cap from the Galaxie 500 video of "Fourth of July". It comes from a segment with a flickering image of a spinning colored star.

The real
Idaho cover is up.

Now it's not as gay
Actually, as I look at it more, I'm loving it more and more. Definitely a big improvement.

Maybe the swirls are part of the overall box artwork and it only makes sense once you hold it.

That's what I was assuming, though I can't figure out what it might be for. But yeah, I do agree with matt, the "Idaho" typeface is pretty lousy. I think it really takes away from the rest of it. But overall I still like it a lot.

I have no theory about the pink swirls (I won't repeat my tongue-in-cheek theory that they signify the gay subtext--oops, I guess I already did). I like the cover. The "woodblock" lettering of IDAHO, to me, is a reflection of the stylized & ornate Shakespearean dialogue that permeates the film.

intrestingly, i find myself liking the lettering/fonts, but actually finding the photo itself [which no-one has really mentioned] rather boring.

Actually, you're probably right. I thought it just meant people in Idaho like to widdle wood.

Does anyone know if the photo used is hand-colored or an actual color picture?

I still don't like it. Too many different ideas. And the still itself is rather bland looking. Maybe that's why they felt they had to add all that other crap.

It is a photo still. I don't think anyone could draw that. At least it looks a little better without those dumb borders.

I know it's a photo, I just don't know if it's a black and white photo that was colored or an actual color photo. The color palette is very interesting.

Right on....I think the whole effect is to give it something of the look of a worn Shakespeare folio....or paperback, at least.
