That link also says there's only one disc to the DVD set, when the Criterionco.com website lists it as a two disc set...

I was only charged $19.47 too, though I haven't received the DVDs yet due to that delay; maybe it's a mistake.

There isn't a single disc version of this is there? Like The Life Aquatic? I don't see why there would be; it isn't really a movie sellable to a pop-culture audience...

Maybe this is just a glitch with DVDplanet, one that benefits consumers--saving them $5. I certainly won't complain to DVDplanet, that's for sure.

I doubt they're sending out the OOP disc, as back in May when is was taken out of print, it didn't list on DVDplanet at all. How could they have that many OOp discs anyway...

I'm sure it's just a mistake on their part.

DigitalEyes.net now also lists Pickpocket as "In Stock (Ships in 24-48 hours)" in my account page.

I have never used Digital Eyes before yesterday, but I have never heard any bad stories. Good prices and fair airmail rates. Does anyone here from the UK use them; are they efficient?

Seriously, I was only joking about their sending the OOP disc. I recall DVDPlanet incorrectly priced another Criterion title but can't remember which one it was.

It's been a couple of years since I last ordered from DigitalEyes but their customer service is by far more personal than DVDPlanet. One of my first orders with DigitalEyes (8 1/2) got lost in the mail and they sent me another copy after it was decided that it had really disappeared. If you want to get a reasonable estimate on delivery time to the UK then you should drop them a line at [email protected].

Thanks for the tip 'What a Disgrace', however there is something fishy going on at DigitalEyes, cause on the Ugetsu page it says "Audio: Mono - Hindi"

Dvd Planet fixed the price of The Wages of Fear to $39.95.

i've been eagerly waiting for DVDPacific to ship my Rebel Samurai set since early last week and, even though the order has been processed and paid for, they've yet to do so. i sent them an urgent email last night and got the reason why -- the DVDPacific warehouse and offices are out of power due to Hurricane Katrina !

Digital Eyes shipped Ugetsu and Pickpocket to me today.

Did anybody already receive his/her copy of Criterion's "Ugetsu" ?

I know that the release date is November 8 and that we are only November 5 , but I received an email announcing me that the copy I have pre-ordered a week ago has been shipped on November 3.

Since I generally receive my DVDs from Amazon.com not less than 12 days after the shipping date, I don't know if these are real good news and I am starting to think that maybe it's an error. Because of the relatively large number of messages posted about Ugetsu and/or his Criterion's release, it's quite strange ( if the shipping has really already started ) that I find not even one single " :D I just received my copy" or any comment of the kind in the criterionforum by posters living in the USA.

Dvdplannet has yet to ship my Adventures of Pete and Pete 2 (due the 1st) or my Criterions due the 8th, which have been ordered weeks in advance. Anyone else having problems with them this month?
I got Oct. Criterions a few days ago, delayed like everyone else.

To defend DVDplanet... I ordered Ugetsu on Wednesday the 2nd, it shipped on the 3rd, and I received it on the 5th.

I think this was a short term problem with DVDplanet. If they can get an order to me in three days, this problem can't be permanent throughout the whole store.

Well, I called the bastards yesterday and they said the 11/8 criterions were in stock and they had no idea why they didn't ship them to me but they would have them sent out in the next two to three days.

It seems like Digital Eyes is on the ball. I received Ugetsu and Pickpocket last Wednesday. It's strange that DigitalEyes and DvdPlanet are suposed to be owned by the same parent company.

Infinity Resources, Inc. headquartered in Itasca, IL, owns DigitalEyes, DVDPlanet and DeepDiscountDVD.

Am I the only one who has yet to have dvdplanet ship Ugetsu and Pickpocket (among other pre-orders this month) even after calling them to verify that they should have shipped?

I re-called dvdplanet today, a week from the initial call, and am now being told that all of my pre orders are backorders and she had no idea when they would get them in and was even more confused by me mentioning that the person I talked to prior said they were all in and that they would be sent out before the den of the week. This order now included the two Criterions, Pete &Pete Season 2, The Kingdom, and Newsfront. Has anyone received copies any of these titles from dvdplanet? or, Am I the only one there are doing this to?

It's shame what Dvd Planet is doing to you. I got Ugetsu and Pickpocket the weekend prior to their releases. My Ran and The Tales of Hoffman copies arrived yesterday in the mail. What type of shipment are you using? I normally use priority, but for Ran and Hoffman I used UPS Second Day Air. Hope that helps.

I use the free shipping and usually recieve my order on the Monday before.

Hmm, I've never had a problem with Dvdplanet. I always use the free shipping, and even though it takes five days or so to get here (Beggars can't be choicers when selecting free Media Mail), I've never had any issues. I'm sure that I'll be getting my shipping reminder on Monday or so about Ran and Tales as usual.

Well, for those of you who have received things from dvdplanet this month, Let me know if you got any of the following and when they shipped (if possible). I have tried sending them e-mails but they're bounced back to me by [email protected] for unspecified reasons. So, if you got any of these from them please post so and give the shipped or received date if possible so I'll have something better to say than "well,..um.. last time.....you told me....."
Adventures of Pete & Pete season 2
Pickpocket
Ugetsu
the kingdom series 1
newsfront
Ran
Tales of Hoffman
I'm sure the last two will have been shipped to some people before I get some results on this and build up something that can't be as easily dismissed as the "she was wrong, "No, she was wrong", "Um, we never got those in." that has killed my previous calls.
tanks to anyone willing to help. (I left out the "wy" because we may need them to bust into the warehouse and see for my self.)

I can't tell you the exact date for Pickpoket and Ugetsu. But I can tell you that each and every preorder order that I have made through Dvdplanet has gone this way. I get an order shipping reminder on the day of the release. I then get said titles on the following Monday or Tuesday.

And for the above two mentioned titles, that is how this worked out for me.

I'll go ahead and eat my previous words defending DVDplanet...

My first Criterion problem was one everyone had, which was the postponed shipping of Le Samourai, Samurai Rebellion, and Wages of Fear. Understandable in my opinion...

But I preordered Ran and the King Kong boxed set, and every time I preorder something, it ships on the previous Thursday, and I get it on the Saturday or Monday prior to its release. Now, the items haven't shipped yet and I probably won't get these discs until after Thanksgiving.

I was really looking forward to watching Ran again this week too.

Does DVDEmpire usually ship pretty quick on preorders?

When, on average, do you people usually get your preorders from them: before, on, or after the official release date?

Like I said before, all of my orders ship either the day of release (Tuesday) or the Monday before. I then get them either Saturday or Monday.

The only title I've had pushed back was An Angel At My Table, but I think everyone did (Though I could be wrong on that one).

And as far as Ran and Hoffman go, they shipped for me on Tuesday. I'll probably end up getting these on the upcoming Tuesday due to the holiday.

Has anyone in the US noticed that Amazon free shipping of preorders has gotten slower? This seemed to occur right after they introduced "Amazon Prime" (free 2-day shipping for an annual fee, for certain products only). I used to get Criterion preorders ON the release date. Now, it's 4-5 days after the release date.
