Asinine Film Title Translations

In Japan a Fistfull of Dollars references Kurosawa with a title that could be translated as "High Plains Yojimbo".

And then, strangely enough, Django has the title "High Plains Yojimbo 2".

A Few Dollars More and Good the Bad and the Ugly then get to be "Sunset Gunman" and "Sunset Gunman 2".

There's a delicious rumour that Godard's Pierrot le fou was once released in the US under the title Crazy Pete...

I've been watching some Almodóvar recently... when I popped in Live Flesh, I was expecting something that took place in a strip club. Fortunately, this was not the case.

This HAD to have been a marketing thing... the original Spanish title (Carne Tremula = Trembling Flesh) is much better and might be one of my favorite unused titles.

Actually, as Colin pointed out, it's the title of the English-language source novel that Almodóvar adapted.

But there's a good case for changing it, since at the screening I attended there were a couple of old dears behind me who were clearly expecting something more along the lines of The Ruth Rendell Mysteries and were getting increasingly disconcerted about what they'd let themselves in for. Which added an extra layer of entertainment.
