The problem has been fixed, but any retailer may still have old stock since it was likely not recalled.

Thanks Matt. It seems I'll just have to take my chances. Returning discs from Australia is a pain, and expensive.

I just received my replacement disc in the mail today. However instead of receiving just the single disc in a flimsy envelope, they sent a whole new Second Printing double disc package of M. Criterion, I am impressed!

PS: I only sent in my faulty Disc 1 by itself in the mail, not the whole set. I hope that settles the "Should I send in the disc or the entire set and package?" question.

Thank you for posting this extremely welcome development. It's been two weeks since I e-mailed Criterion inquiring about the modalities (just disc 1 or the works?) -- no reply so far. Looks like I'll just follow your example and keep my fingers crossed.

I wrote to Criterion myself, being loathe to send in the disc without getting an okay from them. No answer after about two weeks. I wrote to them again last week both via their "Problems" form, and also the "Ask Jon Mulvaney" form.

Nothing from either so far. You used to be able to write to Jon and hear back very quickly. I wonder what's changed.

I haven't heard anything, too... and I sent them two messages, one for M and one for a messed up Cassavetes booklet (that had about 20 pages printed udside-down) and have yet to hear anything...

I wonder what they're going to do about M and, more recently, Jigoku?

Criterion is becoming very slow via email, I called them (via a friend) and they said to send the full M package with a note, and they will send a replacement.

For those it might be feasible for, has anyone thought about going by their offices to trade in the M disc? I'm thinking about this and wondering if it would be a good (or bad) idea. The envelope the Rohmer box came in has a phone number on it that I've thought about calling to see if this might work.

People returning the M disc should be required to write the email in German to get it replaced...

That's a brilliant idea. It saves them the hassle.

Matt wrote:Criterion have still not added it to their Known Problems page. Nor have they added The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie (typos in subtitles on first pressing) or Playtime (Cours du Soir flagged for incorrect aspect ratio playback on first pressing of old disc).
Has Criterion done exchanges for the The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie discs?

I think that the Playtime problem used to be listed on their problem page before that first release went out of print. I seem to remember it being listed there at one time.

They exchanged mine, at least.

Thanks. I'll give it shot then. I wrote them about it. I hope I get a response.

a 2 minute scene in the films VOB files that is skipped by all players, or so I have read.

It's explained in great detail in the Jigoku thread.

Did anybody read my earlier post? I have already sent in Disc 1 only and have already received a full replacement package (Disc 1, Disc 2, and package). The whole shebang! Trust me, just send in Disc 1 with a return address and you will receive a completely new sealed package.

OK, I'm trusting you. I sent them my disc last week. But if I don't receive a replacement, will you send me one instead? #-o

I had sent them just the program disc and then later received the entire set, sealed, as well. A bit of overkill or just plain laziness, I don't know. But I'm glad to have the corrected version!

I just don't see why they refuse to replace to overseas. Especially, when missing booklets don't seem to be a problem to replace worldwide. What's the big difference? MoC are far more consumer-friendly!

For those who received the replacement set from Criterion how long did it take ? I mailed them Disc 1 of the first printing copy I had over 3 weeks ago and I haven't heard anything from Criterion yet.

I mailed them about the Rohmer slipcase replacement over a month ago and no news on that either.

Thanks,
-D

It's like you read my mind. I'm still waiting for both and I'm pissed.

I mailed my disc 3 weeks ago also. I'm starting to wonder if they threw it in their circular file.

I mailed mine about two weeks ago... guess I've got a while to wait.

I called them today and the woman who answered said they had just moved and they hadnt even set up the network yet. They could just be slow.

I received my replacement package in approximately ten days, if I recall correctly.
