I really enjoyed Pineapple.

What was really funny and surprising was that it was pretty violent and gory in parts. The film lands pretty close to being a dark comedy in many segments because of the sheer brutality.

The dialogue was just really good though, as was the direction. Really, really, enjoyable movie.

What a fun movie. Danny McBride, the car chase, the way Craig Robinson & Kevin Corrigan's relationship is developed so richly in just a few scenes, the final diner conversation, just so many great parts. And the dialogue was consistently hilarious, often in very unexpected ways -- a lot of it felt like improv even if it wasn't. I was also very glad to see that David Gordon Green makes his presence felt. Beyond the fact that the staging of the action sequences, with their blend of bloody violence and humor, often reminded me especially of Green's Undertow, there are plenty of smaller moments and subtle touches that clearly bear his mark. Really funny and fun and exciting on the whole.

The line about Godspeed You Black Emperor and The Shins killed me. The rest of theatre didn't get it...

Funny - Yes, but I wouldn't go THAT far.

I thought it was utter garbage. A waste of ten bucks.

You pretty much hit on the head the reasons I loved the film too. But speaking of improv, the final scene in the diner was completely made up on the spot. During the Q&A with the cast when I saw the film, they said that during shooting they thought it would be funny to
Spoiler
have the characters sit down and recap everything that happened to them during the movie.
So they threw up three cameras and actors just riffed on it. If I remember correctly, they there was only a few takes before the got the scene. It is such a completely inspired sequence and it really wraps everything up nicely.

How much of the rest of the movie was improv'd, do you know? I wouldn't be surprised if that was the only scene, everything else is far too clever (though I did love that scene).

There was a lot of improv. Apparently they shot a ton of film and had a lot to work with in the editing room, according to pretty much any interview with Green about the film.

That's so ridiculous. I can't believe how our jails are continually jammed full with (mostly black) nonviolent offenders. Who gives a shit about MDMA?

I really loved Pineapple because it proved that Rogan, Apatow, and Goldberg could write a funny script without so much taboo sex humor. It was funny, but got old after a while.

They all did a wonderful job with pot humor as well :)

I thought it was an okay film. It felt kind of bland to me. I seriously felt that the action scenes took up most of the film, and not much of it was worth laughing at. Most of the time, i sat in the theater regretting that I didn't come to see it high.

You've got between now and January 6th to figure out how to make a bong out of an Amaray case
