if he puts both films together, he needs to edit about hour out of the whole thing. The second half was painfully slow and bloated and it was obvious it retained the fat when the single film was decided to be edited into two.

Vol 2 was painfully slow?

um, yeah. It's over two hours long and the dialogue that carries it (as opposed to the action which carries the first), is dreadfully dull. This might be the only occasion in film history where I find violence or action more entertaining then dialogue and drama (or at least what Tarantino tried to attempt here).
I will admit that the training sequences are probably the best scenes throughout both films though.

Yeah, I never got through Part 2 either. It wasn't that it was slow it was just that I longer cared about the story/plot. Same deal with the third film of the LOTR series.

Part 2 isn't as good as part 1 for sure but I think that's due to Tarantino having to tie up all the loose ends from the first story. Plus I never really cared if she killed Bill or the crap with her daughter anyways.

I found Vol 2 to be far superior to Vol 1, and I really enjoyed Vol 1. Carradine's scenes have a lot to do with it, the training, Michael Parker's scene (his scene in 1 was great too), Madsen's scene. Really, the whole thing felt much more cohesive and interesting to me.
But to each his own.

Not to mention it was more then one big fight scene surrounded by two smaller ones.

Also a reason it's better.
And I don't mind the violence in Volume 1. It just isn't as interesting as the tail-end of the story arc is.

I've only seen the Kill Bill series once so I'm going from memory. I can't really recall which part had which stuff in it. Was the Lady Snowblood-esque swordfight with Lucy Liu in the first or second?

First.
While I still really like the 2nd installment, I've got to agree totally with aox when he says "This might be the only occasion in film history where I find violence or action more entertaining then dialogue and drama".
I was thrilled all through the 1st part, grinning ear to ear. That there was some quality violence. For sheer entertainment value, it towers above the 2nd.

I hope this 'Whole Bloody Affair' cut also fills in some of the gaps between the 2 separate movies -- namely the fate of the Pussy Wagon...and of Sophie Fatale.
