Interesting that Hulu/Disney is taking this approach with films such as this and Baz Luhrmann’s Australia instead of movies people truly enjoy like Blood In, Blood Out and Something Wicked This Way Comes

Not familiar with Blood In but surely part of this is that the directors for these films are alive and presumably actively pursued being able to recut these films?

Taylor Hackford has very actively pushed for it. It was actually because of petitions and some press notices that Blood In, Blood Out made it to Hulu at all. It even got a gorgeous coffee table book from Hat & Beard Press that culled stills from the thousands of BTS images retained by Disney

As The X-Files is being rebooted, Chris Carter saw his chance to put right what he thought went wrong and that's probably why his wish. While it's unlikely that an R-rated cut will massively improve the film, The X-Files still has a huge fan base who will make the release worthwhile. Sadly Jack Clayton is not alive anymore to request' a directors cut of Something Wicked. And while it's gathered a cult following, it's still a relatively obscure film that can't piggyback on a reboot or the desire to indulge a valued filmmaker like Luhrmann, who with Elvis, had just scored a hit. As for Blood In Blood Out, like domino I'm not familiar with this movie people truly enjoy.

I get that the show was Carter's baby but it's a shame that a monster-of-the-week movie wasn't given to one of the better X-Files writers, like Vince Gilligan, Darin Morgan or James Wong. That said, a reunited Mulder and Scully have a nice rapport in it, which doesn't make I Want to Believe a total loss.

It would take a lot of recutting to take all the transphobic stuff out so idk how this is going to play....
