There's some stuff I'd really like to catch, but, as usual, it will probably be too difficult for me to squeeze in a movie. Not that that's a bad thing. It just means that there's too much other exciting stuff happening for me to devote 90 minutes to two hours of my time to a film, since I primarily go to ATP for the music. I might try to catch one of the late or early showings, though. Deconstructing Dad sounds really interesting, but it's unlikely that I'll be able to get up early enough to make it to that. I'd most like to catch Phantom Carriage, but I plan on seeing Portishead at that time. I look forward to finding out what the mystery film is.

Also, Jamie, will the be artwork for each film again this year? I really loved some of the posters last year. I'm a bit ashamed to admit that I took a few of my favorites, but they're probably my favorite ATP souvenirs!

Supposedly Straw Dogs is going to be the TBA film.

Please oh please tell me that means Criterion will get to release a Blu.

I don't think it means anything. They've played OOP films at the ATP festival before. (ex. the Paul Morrissey films) It was probably listed as TBD since it's a Disney film that is sub-licensed to MGM which made getting clearances for a screening a bit more difficult than other films. The fact that MGM recently released the film on blu makes it seem especially unlikely. For Criterion to get any of the ABC or Selznick titles back, it would require working out a deal with 3 major studios; MGM-Disney-Fox.

This year, Eric Skillman has designed some nifty postcards to promote the screenings.

I'm a little undecided on whether to holiday on the Island of Lost Souls or The Rock this summer. Both look to be wonderfully inviting destinations!

I may just give up and spend a long weekend in Malkovich (though I hear that it can get quite crowded at this time of year).

I prefer Bergman Island.

I did that last year - the swimming was wonderful but everything was far too gray and dreary, the wallpaper was peeling in my hotel bedroom, the proprietess of the hotel kept coming into my bedroom and recounting her sexual fantasies in graphic detail and one can only listen to those Bach cello pieces for so long before you go crazy.

Did you go to the same place zedz? I was told the room was full of spiders but never did see any whilst I was there.

I also could have sworn a war broke out in the neighbouring country the second week of my holiday but since it just involved a lot of traffic clogging the roads and only seemed to cause the couple who owned to hotel to have a crisis in their marriage expressed through loud arguments, it was quite difficult to tell for certain (it also led a lot of the performers to break into tears during the theatrical play they were staging for the guests, which kind of ruined the show somewhat). It was a little like spending the summer in Cornwall during the peak season.

Definitely the same place. I still have eyestrain from the red, red walls.

so the Robert Downey Sr. Q & A was really fun. Criterion is working on some kind of collection of his early films, although I didn't query on specifics BABO 73 was definitely mentioned. I hadn't realized he'd provided the voice of Putney Swope, because Arnold Johnson couldn't remember any of the lines. Also, he mentioned that IRON MAN 2 was shit and that his son knows it.

Wish I'd seen a bit more, but, you know, Swans. Earth. Deerhoof. TFUL282. etc. And some guy named Jeff Mangum.

(I actually turned to the girl next to me before the Jeff Mangum show and said "So who is this guy, again?". The reaction was priceless.)

Whoa... TFUL 282 is still around? I thought they split up years ago.

TFUL282 were doing a reunion show - think they've done a couple, but no bigger plans.

Not much a fan of Neutral Milk Hotel? I actually haven't heard any of his solo work. Is his voice still really pitchy? (Oh, gotta tie it to something Criterion related... Anyone else catch the On Avery Island poster in Life During Wartime??)
