Nah. Just don't have the same employee keeping track of the envelopes.

Also, they need to do some drills to react faster when the wrong thing is read. That should've been halted before they started acceptance speeches.
I guarantee there will be run-through and backup plans for every presenter from now on

Who knows the real winner backstage, though? If these results are actually under such lock and key, I'm sure no one could've even noticed there was a problem until they found the correct envelope unopened.

Really, they should have been running out on stage while the LLL crew were still getting out of their seats.

That's what they always claimed would happen if someone read the wrong name when someone would ask w/r/t the Tomei urban legend.

A Price Waterhouse employee who knows all the results should be standing directly offstage IMO.

My understanding is that the second envelope is opened at the same time by the Waterhouse guy.

Here's who knows the winners.
Famous Last Words wrote:"We go through the process of memorizing who all the winners are," she says. Committing all the names to memory doubles as an insurance policy in case the awards presenters call out the wrong name.

Which is surely the one Beatty grabbed, meaning dude was probably checking whatever their backup is. Given that it's never happened, I don't doubt it's a less than smooth backstage process. But, that's life, a second of inattention is all it takes

One more and then I promise I'll leave everyone alone. I suppose this'll be a nonstop meme tomorrow:

P.S. I love watching the Oscars with all of you.

Emma Stone just said backstage she was holding 'her' Best Actress envelope the entire time.

Only bad thing about Kimmel hosting is there's no hilarious Kimmel aftershow to enjoy

Again, there are two in case a presenter goes Sinead O'Connor on one

Would've been funnier and even more awkward if Manchester By The Sea "won" and Kimmel had to take Matt Damon's Oscar from him once the real winner was announced.

So no one else knows the results? So when they get Matt Damon to hand out Best Screenplay to his own movie, that is just coincidence?

Well, regardless of what actually happened, I'm letting Warren Beatty off the hook, and in fact I liked the way he explained the error. "I wasn't trying to be funny" is nothing if not sublimely self-aware.

It already felt pretty cruel when he made that joke about how it was going to lose leading into the category. There are other people who worked on the film, after all.

How'd that conspiracy work out for having the Star Wars stars announce their film lost?

Or Amy Adams doing the same with Arrival?

Huh, didn't realize Scorsese's Oscarless streak extended to Best Director as well
