I'm surprised I'll be the picky one (while I usually am the lenient one) but I'm not totally sold on the 8-bit-y looking AMOLAD and still have trouble with the compositiong in the Dragon Inn cover on which Shangkuan Ling-fung looks particularly unexpressive (though I suppose it's better than Hsu Feng's hamster look on A Touch of Zen) and everybody seems to be looking in a different direction.

This new "Disc Made in Mexico" shrinkwrapping is awful. When I went to pick up The Awful Truth at B&N today, practically every copy of had uneven cover art within the shrinkwrap. Some were even pushed out of alignment so high that it was torn near the folds. Even the copy pictured in the review above suffers from the same issue, but not quite as severe as the ones available in my store location.

So...I'm guessing somebody gets hanged in this movie?

I'm sure the film is good, but I still can't figure it out why it's full price with how few features there are on the disc.

Sex, lies, and videotape will be a digipack.

Seems like a missed opportunity to do a Videodrome fake-VHS thing

They still could be. We’ve only seen the outside.

Although, technically, the "videotape" of the title isn't VHS, but the smaller Video8 variety; hence, the correct notation of "8" at the bottom of the "spine label". You could still design the packaging around the format, but the inevitable size of the packaging wouldn't lend itself to the concept that well.

The director’s name and the comma get jammed in the VCR?

Much better. Criterion has done the whole videotape label motif to death at this point. This one is more representative of the film. The fact that people were saying "I hope the packaging is just like Videodrome's!" is as good as sign as any that it needed to change.

Absolutely horrible decision. That’s such an awkward still. I hated it when it was used for the last Blu-ray and was loving the original Criterion cover.

It looks like a FilmStruck cover you’d see on there for films that don’t have editions yet.

The old one made the movie look like The Ring

This one looks like a companion piece to Mungiu's Graduation.

I always thought of Inland Empire because of the lower shot of Laura Dern.

Has there been a cover art change that significant? Viridiana comes to mind but not any others.

The Makioka Sisters had a drastic change (for the better)

I imagine that was a Soderbergh-suggested change, as, in the screenplay book, he calls that the "key image of the film" (although his following statement of only "the German distributors" agreeing it would be a good poster image has now been proven wrong twice over!).

Sundays and Cybèle as well.

As for sex, lies, and videotape, I'm pretty indifferent (although I do agree that the VHS motif is best left with Videodrome). At least the comma isn't cut off this time.

A major change, but I think I dig it.

Especially like how the wacky C and the Criterion banner cut through the TV screen filter

That cover looks like what would have happened if they let me design a cover using paint, and I suck at it
