There had better be a section of the tour where we go to the top of a hill and watch trains entering tunnels! In my copy of Dubliners that I worked from during my A level studies I still have a pencil note next to that passage saying: "sexual double meaning??" Ah, to return to those more innocent and naive days when I was surprised that a train entering a tunnel could stand for anything more than just a literal meaning!

Though my favourite ever annotation is one made by an unknown student in a copy of Fahrenheit 451 that I 'borrowed' from my school library eighteen or so years ago and did not return (I often wondered if my action was the straw that broke the camel's back as a couple of years after I left the school was razed to the ground and completely rebuilt for a new generation of pupils!)

I love the combination of head-slapping obviousness yet touchingly poignant hesitancy in making a note to remember that: "Burning books = losing knowledge?"

This doesn't belong here, for the simple reason that you almost think the movie is titled Unfunny People.

I hope someone comes back to do a sober edit of that cover.

Yes it looks like the cover would be better suited to Alice In Acidland!

This was the more subdued BFI cover:

And here's the now out-of-print Home Vision cover. I've always liked this one the most. The one above is coming from Warner Bros. in February, no doubt to cash in on the Burton film coming out a month later.

This thread is dangerous to peek at while at work; my suppressed guffaw is threatening to explode. Bravo, SoyCuba...that is one hell of a find. Surprised I was never told in Sunday school that Val Kilmer was Moses....

He's truly the Lord of the Dance! Could it be considered blasphemous that Moses and his brother are played by an infamously uppity movie star and a reality tv show contestant (is "American Idol finalist" a polite way of saying "non-winner of the American Idol final"?)

And how do you pronounce the name of that company? It looks from this distance like Bcbgmaxazria Entertainment.

"BCBG Max Azria" is a clothing line...what a fashion company has to do with producing a biblical musical though, is beyond me.
EDIT: Well, here's the...heh... answer.
A world-class fashion designer lends his expertise to a show about Moses and the Ten Commandments.

The period recounted in the Book of Exodus isn't one from which great visual records remain-unless, of course, you count hieroglyphs. Any costume designer's attempt to recreate the look of ancient Egypt for a theatrical production set in that era is going to involve a combination of research and guesswork.

Then again, when that costume designer is also a world-famous fashion designer-as well as the show's producer-the proposition of creating those robes and sandals both accurately (and stylishly) becomes much more intriguing...

BCBGMAXAZRIA, no spaces -- Colin, you read it right. My partner shopped at one of their stores years ago and I used to refer to it as "BCBG Hank Azaria."

Nice of the company to put in so much hard research. Where would musical theater be without absolute period authenticity from footwear on up?

I honestly thought that Robert Davi was dead.

EDIT: Although looking it up, that movie is over a decade old anyway.

The tagline sounds like something from a Shannon Tweed movie.

Gotta love the background on the bottom 3rd of the cover.
Looks like somebody put this together on a circa 1992 computer.

This cover is pretty lame, though the color scheme is fine.
But what a tin-ear tagline:

Also, there's a series of what is almost certainly Japanese softcore porn entitled Cream Lemon, with the letters rather faint and spread widely across the image of a sexy schoolgirl. What caught my attention is that the fat letter C towards the upper left corner looks a whole lot like the Criterion wacky C in its design and placement. On Amazon, I only see animated porn with that title.
No luck tracking down the Japanese porn faux-Criterion covers.

This is obviously a mistake, but check out the cover art for this "widescreeb" edition of the post-apocalyptic sci-fi film A BOY AND HIS DOG:

http://www.amazon.com/Boy-His-Dog-Wides ... 52&sr=1-17" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I looked into this company, that boasts that it sells 16 x 9 widescreen versions of public domain films like HIS GIRL FRIDAY and THE APE MAN. The guy who runs it also sells insurance and does wedding videography! I wonder if any happy newlyweds got a DVD of THE APE MAN by mistake instead of their nuptials?

Reminds me of the time Amazon had a porn pic in place of a dvd cover.

Well, it might have been more entertaining ...
Of course a widescreen version might lop off the top of Minerva Urecal's head.

I'm surprised the "featuring the music of Paul McCartney" wasn't larger font than and prior to the title.
