TAM LIN!!!!!!! :D One hope they'll at least be able to include the Roddy McDowall introduction that was on the old VHS.

I have a hard time getting excited about these lists of scores of films that Olive has the rights to, because you know the DVD market will crater, or maybe I'll just keel over dead, before they get all of those out. Even if they keep up or slightly increase their rate of output, this latest list plus the Republics is 5 years' worth, easy. I just can't imagine the market will support them that long, although I'd love to see it happen (and I'm doing my part via importcds!).

Exciting news! Way too much thought went into that cover though.

Yes, way too much thought for way too little result. Probably the most artistically ugly cover in recent memory. (That image is supposed to move more product that Hepburn's incredible face?) The original release artwork wasn't much, but would have at least been more appropriate. A great and powerful film, from an even greater play. Glad it's finally available on disc.

That cover reminds me of a college dorm poster explaining "different kinds of drunk".

So you are all saying that you think Olive's cover is 'vial'?

The Olive cover for Long Day's Journey seems like it may have been inspired by this pb cover, which is less cluttered. So how good is the Aldrich film anyway?

Olive is supposed to be staffed by a skeleton crew of six (according to Tarzi) so who pissed away valuable man hours on that ridiculous "artwork". And yes Grand Wazoo it does look a lot like some dumbass PSA. That or an upscale booze ad in Esquire or Playboy back in the day. I though they were full steam ahead producing more releases but apparently they're playing MAD MEN :x

Twilight's Last Gleaming gets a nice-sized, brand-new special feature and all the people on this page can do is crab about the (admittedly lame) cover for LDJIN. No wonder Tarzi is so foul-tempered!

The crucial question here is whether LDJIN is going to finally be available in widescreen.

According to Amazon, yes

Beaver on Private Hell 36

Gotta love the hyperbole of "The original 1.85:1 has been bastardized to 1.78." I'd guess that 85%+ of the 1.85:1 theatrical releases are 1.78:1 on Blu-ray. Theatrical presentations probably varied far more wildly than that, I reckon.

I got my Johnny Guitar Blu-Ray today, and I noticed this on the back cover:

SPECIAL FEATRUES
MARTIN SCORSESE
INTRODUCTION of JOHNNY GUITAR

Wow, you're right. Well, there's that staff of six again.

I'm sure it's just the same Scorsese intro that was on the old R2 release.

Are you saying they misspelled "features"? Or was that you?

The Scorsese intro also appeared on the old U.S. vhs, which is I how first saw it. It was in the one film studies class I took in college. The professor sold Johnny Guitar—a film completely unfamilar to me at the time—to us as if it was the highest in high camp, a total hoot. So it was a bit confusing when Scorsese came on, sounding as if he was talking about an entirely different film.

Agree. Has Gary ever seen some of the (mostly) European discs that bastardize 2.35:1 to 1.78? Now, that's scary!
