Well, since I regularly bring a bazooka with me when I go to karaoke bars, this cover looks pretty realistic to me.

You're right. I misread "has never directly led" as "has EVER directly led." Oops. My bad. Disrespect my lack of authoritay.

Oscar-winner for this film Jack Palance's name isn't featured but he's on the cover
Daniel Stern isn't on the cover but his name is featured
Bruno Kirby apparently trumps both for the average filmgoer-- who knew?!

Variants of that complaint get leveled a lot (Why are those names on the cover? Why don't the names match the faces?). To a certain extent though, the cover art designer's hands are tied. The names listed on the cover are contractual requirements. Crystal, Stern, and Kirby had "above the title" credits in their contract long before the film was released, and it applies to all marketing for the film (including DVDs). You can tell this because the credit block (tall skinny listing of above the line talent featured in posters and trailers) reads, "BILLY CRYSTAL • DANIEL STERN • BRUNO KIRBY "CITY SLICKERS" PATRICIA WETTING • HELEN SLATER AND JACK PALANCE." The "and" credit is a special credit like "guest starring" that denotes Palance's status. The designers are free to put pictures of whomever they like on the cover though, and Palance likely appeals to a certain demographic that they're trying to reach.

It seems like it wouldn't have been hard to design a cover that encorporated all four leads then... I guess it's just frustrating because the cover's a lot better than most and it seems like there could have been a way to work around the constraints better, especially since whoever made it doesn't appear to be an idiot.

She looks like she's in the middle of a certain, uh, demonstration, about how to Give Nub and show off your porcelain laminates all at the same time.

That cover would be terrible enough on its own but when compared to how good the original poster art was, it's just exhibit 789 in the case against idiots in DVD marketing.

I love how the cover for one of Legend's recent Paramount licensed films there's a blurb about how Leonard Maltin gave the film three stars.

They'd better watch out that they don't mix their "champagne cocktail of comedy" with a "molotov cocktail of high drama"!

In the first version of the thread I posted some LP covers that were horrendous. The Orlando Sentinel finished my job by compiling 50 more.

Worst LP covers evers

My favorites:

This one, of course, was sent-up in a Simpsons episode. (When Milhouse's parents divorce, Kirk records a demo tape with the same title.)

Is the basket about basketball? I would guess so based on the cover, but the main actors dont seem to be the type for sports movies.
