The 2019 BFI disc of Huston's Moulin Rouge was licensed from Romulus Films which, as crimlaw mentioned, was acquired by StudioCanal in 2021. That's why their disc went out of print. In the U.S., the film is MGM. There wouldn't seem to be anything standing in the way of Criterion releasing it other than their historical lack of interest in it.

awesome, I figured but just had to make sure since the BFI disc I was told was all Fox (don't presently have access to my copy so can't check the logo on the box). I do hope they heel turn on releasing it in the future, it's an incredibly worthy film
