Maybe you didn't get the memo; we're talking about THE SILENT FILM Wings, not the (insert expletive here) sitcom.miless wrote:Why so much praise for Wings? It's one of the worst sit-coms ever made.
Perhaps you haven't heard of irony, or attempts at humor - but I think he knew perfectly well which WINGS was under discussion.AfterTheRain wrote:Maybe you didn't get the memo; we're talking about THE SILENT FILM Wings, not the (insert expletive here) sitcom.miless wrote:Why so much praise for Wings? This would absolutely fantastic. Even more so if they can come up with Repulsion as well.Cinephrenic wrote:The Mattei Affair (Rosi), The Tenant (Polanski), The Stranger (Visconti), Four Flies on Grey Velvet (Argento)ianungstad wrote:Are there any other high profile foreign titles Paramount are sitting on? Tamara's gonna have to start shredding the trash!Cinephrenic wrote:Criterion must think our forum has some kind of intelligence agency for gathering info regarding upcoming releases.
The Tenant, Seconds and The Elephant Man all went OOP at the same time about a year ago. I have not heard about special editions for any of these titles through Paramount. Any would be welcome on Criterion...though unlikely. I'm still hoping that they've got a special edition of Brain Candy or Looking for Mr.Goodbar up their sleeves.Cinephrenic wrote:The Mattei Affair (Rosi), The Tenant (Polanski), The Stranger (Visconti), Four Flies on Grey Velvet (Argento)ianungstad wrote:Are there any other high profile foreign titles Paramount are sitting on? The Elephant Man will be included in the David Lynch Lime Green Set with new bonus features, so I guess that's its special edition.ianungstad wrote:The Tenant, Seconds and The Elephant Man all went OOP at the same time about a year ago. Variety.com wrote:Art film distrib Janus and the Criterion Collection have nabbed North American theatrical and homevid rights to Goetz Spielmann's "Revanche," ahead of its AFI Fest unspooling on Nov. 1.
Janus will release the pic to theaters in March followed by a Criterion DVD rollout.
Spielmann's dramatic thriller, which preemed at this year's Berlin Film Festival, is Austria's Oscar entry in the foreign-language film race.
Though well known for its massive classic film library, Janus hasn't released a firstrun film in 30 years. Janus topper Peter Becker saw "Revanche" at the 2008 Telluride film fest and began discussions with Spielmann.
"It was a completely unusual gesture because acquiring firstrun films is not something we're going to be doing on an ongoing basis," said Becker. Becker said Janus is well positioned to release the new pic through existing relationships with arthouses that rely on Janus for their repertory calendar.
Founded in 1956, Janus is credited with introducing such foreign helmers as Ingmar Bergman, Francois Truffaut, Federico Fellini and Akira Kurosawa to American audiences. Its sister company Criterion releases many Janus pics as high-end "authoritative" versions on DVD and Blu-ray.
