Thinking about possible Fox titles, I'm also wondering whether 'Julia' might be a likely addition to the Criterion library. Any thoughts?

I always kind of assumed that Universal would do the same thing with Criterion and Blu-ray that Universal did with DVDs -- release a fucked up, substandard version (DtRT, Spartacus), get a few years of sales out of it, then let Criterion have a crack at it and sell it again.

Stanley Donen's Two for the Road is another good candidate for a FOX title. Film Foundation did a major restoration back in 2012. Disc is out of print. If it was something licensed to Twilight Time; you would think they would have released it by now.

Two For the Road was one of the titles Fox put up for votes in their Blu-ray campaign a few years back, so there's an HD master ready to go. I imagine it will show up somewhere, though I think all of those prospective titles on the ballot ended up coming from Fox themselves so far

You mean the Fox Studio Classics DVD? It still seems to be in stock in most of the usual places.

It is in print. I mixed it up with the other Fox Hepburn; How to Steal A Million, which is OOP.

blu-ray.com listed a z upgrade and nagisa oshima's boy as announcements. z has been heavily hinted in the past and boy was supposed to be released last year, no? i remember seeing it in the 2013 new year hint image.

here's hoping.

The New York Times put up a page today on it's website crediting Janus films as the domestic distributor of Leni Riefenstahl's Triumph of the Will. Did we know that this was a Janus title? I know that Olympia had been mentioned before as being a Janus holding.

I'm sure I asked this years ago on this board (so apologies, but I don't remember), but is there anyway Criterion might get Tarkovsky's The Mirror, The Sacrifice, and/or Stalker? How did the rights to Tarkovsky's seven films get split up if MosFilm originally had them (sans his final two which I know were not produced in the USSR).

Speaking of Mosfilm, what about Bondarchuck's War and Peace? It's only available in two different DVD editions (both awful, but the region 1 is significantly worse). It requires a LOT of work, but it's one of the most phenomenal cinematic achievements to date. Any chance of Criterion getting this one?

Nah, all the rights to those Riefenstahl films are with InterFilmArt Entertainment.

I think there has been some talk of this one on CC but I could be wrong. I have never seen it and have always wanted to.

Mosfilm has the whole thing up on YouTube in fairly decent quality, though if memory serves the subtitles are kind of wonky.

Wasn't that proven to be some elaborate scam?

No. The scam wasn't the least bit elaborate.

Why is everyone predicting A Matter of Life and Death? Was there a recent hint for it that I missed?
