I'm not sure I can stomach saying "I like the Warner Archive Collection."

Has anyone seen the Archive release of Two Faced Woman that came out last March? I'd really like to know whether it's the original version or the Legion of Decency-censored version that was released on VHS, rather than pay $12-13 and wait for it to come in the mail only to be disappointed midway through watching the DVD. An example of a cut scene is when Douglas is ranting about the need to consider "his position" and Garbo reclines on a couch in a negligee, with her legs going up on the back of the couch, and asks, "How does my position affect your position?" (There were many other lines cut, shots inserted, and alternate takes substituted.)

It's tough for me to guess which version they've used. The original uncut print was apparently shown at a Cukor retrospective in London in 2004. The description of the DVD-R says "has been manufactured from the best-quality video master currently available and has not been remastered or restored specifically for this DVD." So would that probably be the same video master that was used for the MGM/Warner VHS all those years ago?

I bought The Mating Game (1959) in the 50% Facebook sale. Can anyone tell me if it's any good?

Is this the first Archive release to include a commentary?

They are also releasing OOP Akira Kurisawa's Dreams into Archives.

As much as the whole Archive thing still basically sucks, I'm happy that extras are starting to trickle back on- for a while there, it looked like commentaries were pretty well not going to be recorded for any of the majors anymore.

How do we know that this commentary wasn't recorded way back and the DVD simply never surfaced.

It's according to press release plus the artwork for it appeared in the end of March, but title is getting released 5 months later...

Several years ago at the last Warner chat I asked about Alex in Wonderland, and they said "we have no plans for this film, but we think it might be perfect for our new Warner Archive label" or something to that effect.

And if anyone has an update - what about The Big Sky, which was mentioned as coming out some time ago?

@isakborg, I asked them about THE BIG SKY on their Facebook page a couple of weeks ago, mentioning the poor quality of the recent UK release. Here's their reply:

Anyone heard anything on their Facebook page or elsewhere about Beyond the Forest? Seems like this one definitely should have been in one of their Bette Davis sets, but it hasn't even shown up among first ~1,200 Archive releases, leading me to believe there may be a problem with the film materials.

The last I heard (a few years ago), Warner had some sort of rights issues with Beyond the Forest.
