Not really ugly, but T4? WTF?

It's a Chinese DVD from joyo.com.

According the cast it's Eliminators.

Conan Lee? I haven't seen him since Ninja in the Dragon's Den.

He was great in that, although I think Hiroyuki Sanada did a better job of kicking his backside! Bey Logan's commentary on the Hong Kong Legends disc of Ninja In The Dragon's Den suggested that although he was being groomed to be a big star he got a little big-headed and didn't get hired much because of it. Logan mentioned that he turns up as an uncredited extra in John Carpenter's Big Trouble In Little China and in Lethal Weapon 4 (and that was a film that even seemed to make Jet Li a minor character, so I'm unsurprised I didn't notice him in that!)

Bey Logan also mentioned that they had tried to get Conan Lee to do the commentary with him on Ninja, or at least do an interview, but he apparently got a string of ludicrous requests, such as Logan having to clean Lee's apartment for a year, so they gave up!

He was very good in Ninja In The Dragon's Den (also worth getting for the funkiest title sequence I've ever seen and the great disco opening song: ready to fight/shaka-ninja!)

You're a man of great taste. I salute you.

I have the Hong-Kong Legends disc but for some reason I never checked out the commentary. It's on my todo list now. Henry (as I like to call him) Sanada was my favorite martial-arts actor in the 80's. I'm still looking for decent releases of Shogun's Ninja and Roaring Fire.

Shaka Ninja, indeed.

Another day, another crappy cover. Bleh. Compare it to the poster:

Starring Forest Whitaker, Forest Whitaker and Forest Whitaker as the Amin triplets! You know, its nice to see Mr. Whitaker get a role like this. Usually Eddie Murphy has the monopoly on playing multiple characters, but I'm glad that they only gave him billing once.

At least Fox had the sense to put him in different clothes for one of the photos, but the other two photos are not quite so... imaginitive.

Triplets?
I think they're cou-uh-uh-sins,
Identical cousins don't you see:
They laugh alike, they walk alike,
At times they even talk alike --

You can lose your mind,
When cousins are three of a kind.

Is the Last King of Scotland cover for real?!? That's breathtakingly bad.

You can just imagine the meeting: "Well, on the top we have Forest's face, on the bottom right we have Forest's upper body. But what about the bottom left? Hmm, how about another picture of Forest's face? There were no other actors in this film anyway were there?"

That Last king of Scotland cover is "a stunning achievement" in shittiness. When will the studios learn that books (or dvds in this case) are judged by their cover?

The theatrical campaign was actually kind of cool (although it only showed Mr. Whitaker once - a clear mistake that I understand needed to be rectified). Its such a shame that the DVD looks this bad...

There is a theory within the industry that people are used to seeing video artwork a certain way (big faces, etc.), and that conforming to these expectations helps indicate "accessability" to the audience. "Arty" design indicates an "arty" movie, and so forth. I'm just amazed that the word OSCAR isn't printed in a typeface larger than the title.

That's brutal. Why not just use the bottom left one, which I think was the one used for the poster (though stylized)?

That cover will probably change for the worse after Sunday. It will most likely get a huge banner saying "Academy Award Winner" or "x Academy Award Nominations".

she still dead, unburied and nobody knows who the father of the child is, but the studios still are releasing this Cinemax film like it was the last film of an acclaimed actress.

Which one is Smith? I can't tell. Directed by the man who gave us "Time Chasers" most famously on Mystery Science Theater 3000. Quite a horrendous movie.......

the question mark on the tagline is epically hilarious.

As for last king of scotland, I can guarantee the artwork will sport an oscars banner before it streets.

The sad thing is that I know Shalim Ortiz (big head at top right of the cover). We were in the same class in elementary school.

I went to school with Eric Bana who was in my same year at Essendon Grammar School in Melbourne, Australia. Last time I saw him was in 1998 at our school reunion but this was just before Chopper came out in Australia and before he was a big star although he had been on TV doing comedy shows at the time.

I'm pretty tired of the big picture + small strip to get the supporting actor's face on the box DVD cover. Not as tired as I would be if it were the same actor in both shots... but pretty tired.

I like How Louis Gossett, Jr. is just sorta there, like an afterthought.

I like how he's using the upper-half of Debra Winger's torso as a sun-visor.

What is it with the studios and the fucking stupid names! If they just concentrated the effort in more productive things.
