I definitely want to pick up Crimes and Misdemeanors, but I usually like to order at least two titles and there isn't anything else that interests me.

EDIT: Ordered it anyway.

I just missed scoring a free, autographed Royal Flash (I had my order ready to go at 3:03), but I got the two Allens, The Eddy Duchin Story, and The Driver.

If nobody's mentioned this yet, it's worth noting that Thunderbolt and Lightfoot comes with a commentary by Lem Dobbs, Julie Kirgo, and Nick Redman.

How quickly do these things sell out?

The Golden Voyage of Sinbad took just over 2 months, and no way are any of these discs going as fast as that one. The Driver has been available for 8 months.

OK, thanks. I thought maybe the market for the Woody Allens would be fairly large, but maybe not?

When any titles come close to selling out, they're pretty good about announcing this.

I guess the Allens have an outside chance of selling out faster than anything that is not Sci-Fi or horror.

What about the Lynch? I assume that will be popular, no?

I think if they had Salad, they'd be releasing them through Fox.

I'm also sorely tempted by the Crimes and Misdemeanors issue, but due to the shipping costs to South Africa I intend waiting and ordering this together with Bring Me The Head Of Alfredo Garcia.

I wasn't too big on Equus, but that two hour doc on Richard Burton has my interest. Has anyone seen it?

Obviously I'm getting Bring Me The Head of Alfredo Garcia.

Twilight Time's really gone all out with the extras on the Alfredo Garcia release. That new commentary alone would make this worth it for me. I'm imagining the transfer will also improve on the European Blu-rays. This seems pretty obviously a labor of love for Nick Redman.

Alfredo Garcia could well turn out to be my first TT purchase. I hated hearing that TT had picked it up, but it looks like some effort has gone into this one that would justify the price. Looking forward to seeing what the transfer looks like.

Twilight Time wrote:A note about the transfer: for those of you familiar with the foreign territory releases on blu-ray, this transfer is the same. There appears to be only one surviving HD master, culled from the best available sources. The transfer is detailed, colorful, and sharp, but its one blemish is the recurring incidences of white speckling, also known as "minus density" (trademark, RAH!) Apart from that, it looks very good. It must be remembered that ALFREDO GARCIA was a low-budget, indie road movie, shot entirely on location in Mexico, and it remains unclear what the state of the original elements actually is, and whether any of them have survived in reasonable shape.

Re: AV quality on 2005 MGM edition of ALFREDO GARCIA from a (much longer) comment later quoted (so I'm told) in an online review by Greg Nicoll -

"as to the color and grain I do believe that United Artists must have had the camera original processed in Mexico as it appears to have been developed in cheap tequila, washed downstream from a zinc mine and fixed in runoff from the urinals of a third rate bordello with release prints struck after hours at the Photomat in Tiajuana! Anything would be an improvement!"

This is also my opinion of the cablecasts, UA-16 prints and the original theatrical 35s. GARCIA was without doubt the lowest budget (adjusted for inflation!) of any film north of THE DEADLY COMPANIONS. The fact that it doesn't look like chewed up drive-in prints of Howco and Crown International releases is a major miracle.

Conrack is one of the more underrated films of Martin Ritt's generally underrated career. He's one of those directors who you don't even realize at first is responsible for some of your favorite films. It's great to see Twilight Time releasing more of his work.

I think it's also nice to see more of Nick's commentary tracks. I've enjoyed all the ones I've heard and it really helps me feel like I'm getting that extra bit of value for the price. There have been a lot of extras lately in the newer releases.
