Re: Arrow Films
I almost double-checked to see if Dassin really directed the film.

Re: Arrow Films
I had the same reaction and even went to IMDB to double check. Then I saw Dassin as director and realized it was a mix up.domino harvey wrote:They have the cast details of Thieves' Highway up for Hellraiser. I was like, "Wait, Richard Conte was in it?"

Re: Arrow Films
Deep Red in both cuts in 4K is enough for me to double-dip (bye bye Blue Underground Blu). Now if they do the same for Bird with the Crystal Plumage in 2016...
Thieves Highway is not my favourite Dassin but happy for others to see it out. Knowing my luck, Arrow will announce Night and the City with both the US and UK cuts in 4k after I buy the Criterion.

Re: Arrow Films
4 releases out of 6 are limited editions (not taking the 2 Boro US-ports into account).
This being said, I don't care since I'll buy everything \:D/ but it always remembers me how the UK market seems very very difficult right now.

All the more reason to praise Arrow. Despite the difficult conditions, not only are they putting out the best work in home video right now, but much of it easily competes with or even bests a lot of the stuff from the "golden age" of home video.

The American Cinematheque described Hardly a Criminal as a "vivid cross between Naked City and Brute Force" - two films Arrow have already released - so that could make for a very interesting addition to Arrow's noir lineup.

From Twitter:
Good news folks, our November announcements are taking place this week however this time around we are doing things a little differently...
Our new UK-only releases will be announced TOMORROW at 4pm featuring a truckload of films over 3 releases. Expect 2 for Video & 1 Academy!
Our North American friends needn’t worry, on THURSDAY at 4pm BST/ 8am PST/ 11am EST we will announce our new US-UK slate!
Our UK-US slate features 2 Arrow Video releases. If this seems slim, don’t worry the total announcement comprises of a whopping 15 discs!

Far more psyched for Arrow's announcements than Criterion's and MoC's at this point.

Re: Arrow Films
Back in July, at the NYAFF, Marc Walkow spilled the beans on Arrow's upcoming Battles Without Honor and Humanity box set
Actually the one big deal was Marc Walkow returned to the stage to introduce BATTLES .... giving a great deal of information on the film and announcing that Arrow will be releasing the new box set-which Marc put together- with new interviews, new docs and 100 plus page book of essays. Based on what Marc said about the film on stage this is going to be one hell of a well researched and informative set. I'm seriously considering replacing my current box set with the 13 disc set

I was utterly unfamiliar with Battles Without Honor and Humanity until introduced to it the other night in the Jasper Sharp interview on Arrow's Lady Snowblood release. It certainly seems right up their alley.

Re: Arrow Films
Thirteen discs for the Yakuza Papers seems a bit much; it should only take 8-10. There's either way too many extras, or...the New Battles Without Honor and Humanity films are also going to be included.

Do your bit criterionforum member. Just think, he could be talking about Naruse!Francesco Simeoni wrote:I am proud that Arrow is releasing wonderful niche titles like Yoshida and Rivette. Re: Arrow Films
I'm very glad to have them, but I do wonder how sensible it was to release Yoshida and Rivette within a month of each other. The latter could well overshadow the former, and if people think that Rivette will sell out more quickly then they might put Yoshida off until a later date (I've already read some say that they'll do this).
I mentioned Terayama, Wakamatsu and Somai to Fran and he said 'along those lines'

I hope Arrow is able to release some Somai. I can't think of another label in the world more likely to do so. A bluray of Typhoon Club would really be something!

Re: Arrow Films
Arrow is knocking it out of the park lately....but....why are their less illustrious discs so horribly mangled? Season 2 of The Bridge has FOUR unskippable trailers before the menu and the three discs of the Scandinavian release have been squeezed onto two discs, and all the extras excised. It's not just bad, it's like echo bridge bad.

I also have The Voices BD which also has some trailers at the beginning of the disc, though you can fast forward them.

Only Arrow Video and Arrow Academy are run by the team who are knocking it out of the park. Arrow Films and Nordic Noir are a different bunch as I understand it.

This might be acceptable if these releases were VHS tapes.tenia wrote:I also have The Voices BD which also has some trailers at the beginning of the disc, though you can fast forward them.
I figured that was the case, but somebody needs to clean house around there. I don't expect anything the level of detail afforded to the top shelf product, but having something like forced trailers is as bad as home video gets. The extreme disparity in quality between these divisions makes these mistakes appear even more egregious.EddieLarkin wrote:Only Arrow Video and Arrow Academy are run by the team who are knocking it out of the park.
