It looks like the R1 dvds of Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down, Kika and Women on the Verge of the Nervous Breakdown have been OOP for some time. Does anyone know whether they're going to be re-released or not? Hope so especially with the Almodovar retrospective slated to sweep through the US next year. I like High Heels a lot and I've been wanting to have this film on DVD for a long time. Any info on its DVD availability? Gracias!

Isn't Sony Pictures Classics dubbing 2006 the "Year of Almodovar" or something?

High Heels is also a PA favorite of mine. There seems to be a recent german release - linked here - which, according to the site has English subs and is 16x9. Can anyone confirm that this disc has subs and is in the proper aspect ratio?

Optimum is currently preparing two Almodovar boxsets. The first will be released in November, containing:

Women on the verge..., What have I done to deserve this, Dark Habits and Pepi, Luci, Bom.

The second box is due in the summer of 2006, with Matador, Flower of the street, Law of desire and Kika.

Reviews will be up on Beaver later this month.

Amazon.co.uk says that both box sets (vol. 1 and 2) will be released on November 14th.

Beaver also shows that all the titles from both volumes will be released on November 14th.

Along with two Romuald Karmakar discs and the new Vertov Enthusiasm, I received the German High Heels disc. linked above, today. Colors look appropriately Almodovar-ish, and there ARE English subtitles. The default audio track is a hilarious German dub. But, for overly picky purists, the Spanish "original" is there too, on track two!

Right now Amazon.com has a sale on a lot of Columbia/Tri-Star DVDs, including All About My Mother, The Flower of My Secret, and Talk to Her. I'm tempted to pick up the first two which are fine films and which I don't yet own, but I wonder if it would be wiser to wait to see if the company is planning multi-title collections or price drops to promote Almodovar in 2006. Any thoughts?

Thedigitalbits.com is reporting that Sony is going to release The Pedro Almodovar Collection on April 4th.
In more official DVD news, Sony has revealed the following titles for release on 4/4: Dirty, Dawson's Creek: The Complete Sixth Season, The Story of Qiu Ju, Thank God It's Friday, a Blue Thunder: Special Edition and a Pedro Almodovar Classics Collection (including All About My Mother, Bad Education, Talk to Her and The Flower of My Secret).

Interesting, since it was reported a couple of weeks ago that Bad Education and Talk to Her were being discontinued. It is also interesting which version of Bad Education will this set include.

It seems that it has been cancelled or delayed. Most likely part of the new Sony discontinuing foreign films and re-releasing crap program. i only found this on amazon.com

On a side note, for me it was pretty strange that Sony took OOP all of the titles in this collection before announcing the box set. i thought that sony lost the rights and someone else was going to handle the Almodovar catalog, so maybe this is the reason why this box set has been canceled/delayed.

Mao, a well respected DVDTalk member who works in the industry is reporting that an Almodovar box set title Viva Pedro is coming on January 30th 2007. Here is the info:
8 Films by Pedro Almodovar (Women On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown / All About My Mother / Talk To Her / The Flower Of My Secret / Live Flesh / Bad education / and for the first time [and only available in the set] Law Of Desire and Matador) is being released by Sony Home Entertainment on Jan. 30th, 2007! This is a 9 disc set!

The official announce date is November 20, when more details will be released. The suggested retail is set for $117.95. I've been waiting for "Matador" for years.

Great news, although the price sure is steep, and is Sony still issuing their foreign films with yellow subtitles?

Yeah, that's what I thought followed by "does this mean no respective trailers?" too...

BTW, who in R1 owns the other ones missing from this set?

Will the films in this box set be unrated? Or are we going to have to settle for the R- rated versions? Many of his films are being rated NC-17 by the MPAA.

And I only counted 8 films. Is the 9th disc Volver?

Live Flesh and Women on the Verge(...) have both come from MGM thanks to the Sony merger. I wonder if they will give them new transfers and extras.

This should probably go in the bargains section, but amazon.com is listing the upcoming almovodar collection for only $23.99.

I think this is the one that was supposed to be released and was then pulled. It's showing it as only 4 discs.

Well, yes, it was the original listing for 4 disc set that was pulled, but now I think its going to be the listing for the new 9 disc boxset. i just believe Amazon.com has not updated the specs or retail price. They do that every now and then and sometimes the honor the misprice.

nice thing about Amazon, I went ahead and put it on preorder in hopes that this price sticks and the specs change. I can cancel it still if it ends up being screwed up. I still need to order the UK Almodovar Set Vol. 1 because three of the four films in that aren't available here in the states.

So far so good. Amazon has raised the price to $82.99 and my pre-order price of $23.99 is still the one in my account info.

Mine too. I hope this deal gets through.
