We have threads on Czech modernism from the 1920s-40s and of course the Czech New Wave, but very little discussion about this other, more ignored period. I was wondering about these films in particular. How are they as adaptations? And just how bad are the Facets DVDs?

You don't need to bother with Facets - Filmexport Home Video is a very reliable label, and in fact offers both films in a single package.

The only likely drawback is that only the main features will have English subtitles - extras are almost invariably Czech-only.
