I can count on one hand directors for which I would buy such a book, and Kubrick ain't one of 'em. Though I wouldn't complain if someone gave it to me as a present. . .

Well, I've got a check from the IRS floating around the abyss that is the US Postal Service. If that ever gets here, maybe I can afford this...

Agreed. If any book was worth that chunk of change, this looks like the one. Hardcover. 544 pages. CD with Kubrick interview. Nice.

I know it sounds trivial, but I hate books with dimensions that are wider than they are high. And I know one shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but I hate that fucking cover. Since this is a coffee table book shouldn't it look good on my coffee table?

Other than that, the content sounds fantastic. I hope more of Kubrick's archives will show up on future DVD's

That book is like a Kubrick fans wet dream. Yeah and I don't like the cover that much also. You would think that for the price that people are going to pay for it they would have put a cover on it that would have jumped out at them.

I put this on pre-order in January at Amazon for $126, but that price seems to have disappeared...

For those who can't get enough of all things Kubrick, I'd recommend picking up a copy of the catalog of the exhibition of his work going on over in Germany. Worth every penny!

I should explain. That comment (although true - he does have a dedicted male following) is from one of our contributors (name alludes me at the moment) that is helping with our upcoming "Director's Chair" series... anyway, to avoid any sexist connotations, it has been changed.

Really though, Kubrick films, IN GENERAL, are not condiusive to being labled "chick flics" (thats for sure) and most hardly have any women charcters in important roles... guys love Kubrick... and a few women too I suppose.

Okay, I'll shut up. There is something geeky about the film-strip... not that it deters my desire for it. Like that Simpson's episode were Bart uses Homer's credit card to get an Itchy and Sctachy animation cell (like $350)... and it is only an arm. Anyway I hope I don't get the entrance music (12 frames of black)

Er... as a completely hypothetical question... I mean, I wouldn't ever think of actually doing such a thing, of course... but does anyone know if the cell is likely be, er, presented in a way that is, er, actually suitable for framing? (As opposed to, like, glued to the cover or something.) Completely, utterly hypothetically, you understand.

I would use thumb tacks to pin up the cell, thats just me though. Seriously though, if you had a tight backing you would need nothing, just center, put on the backing, make sure its tight and voila!

No, but I did have a look at a friend's copy. Beautiful book, but....

I loathe Taschen with a passion and refuse to give them a penny of may savings. I doubt if Kubrick was still with us he would allow his life's work to be peddled about in such art-fart fashion. (and cutting his film in strips to sell? geez, the horror of it all.) The very people who should be reading the book - the young film-hungry teenager, workin' the tables to make ends meet, getting by on hopeful dreams and cheap cigarettes, wearing her dead dad's original Ramones tour t-shirt from '82 - haven't a chance.

just a note for those of you who are pre ordering.

As mentioned before, Amazon.com dropped their discount on it for some reason. I tried to email them asking if it was a mistake, ect, trying anything. They of course gave me the typical, all prices are subject to change yada yada. And I already did a search of other sites that are selling it, and aparently for at least people in the US, Amazon.uk have the best price even with the shipping.
I just went ahead and ordered mine for 76 pounds 98.

of course if anyone finds it cheaper, please tell.

Taschen books are rarely discounted due to the ugly prices and terms they charge to wholesalers and book retailers.
